I am 36 years old and have to kids --I use to go 28 days inbetween periods and the older I get the longer I go. I am now at about 35 days. Is this normal? I have actually scared myself into being pregnant--we are done having children. anyway I have taken a test and it is negetive on the 31 day. Is there anyone this seems familar with?

What can I do next?

I have always been clock work both on and off the pill...and over the last year, mine are changing even being on the pill. It always starts a different day each month and periods are different. As for the change of life, My mom went through menopause at the young age of 39. I am hoping to go through it soon too...lol...I have always mimicked my mom and gone through things even earlier. I got my first period earlier than her, I regulated earlier than her...so I think by the time I am 37 or 38, I will be done. I am going to ask my doc at my next exam to test me for it to see if I am in premenopause. We have one child and I would like to know if we need to make the decision now about having another or if I have time to wait.

I am only 29 and have noticed the same thing happening to me over the past 5-6 months. I used to be so regular that every 28th day I knew that as soon as I woke up I would start. Now here it is day 33 and still nothing. I see others in the same boat but non as young as I am. Maybe I need to see a Dr. ARGH!!
We aren't done having kids yet (currently have 2-5yrs and 15months) but, we aren't trying right now either. I'm not on the pill so maybe there is a chance I may be pregnant. Who knows!! I guess only time can tell.
Anyways, your definately not alone!!

your cycles can change over time - as you get older... your cycles can get shorter or longer..

it is normal...

I am having the same sort of problem the past 6 or 8 months. My have not been consistent at all! I was every 28 days since it started at 13. I am now almost 35, 4 kids later I'm at 24 days up to 40 between. I did ask the OB about it and was told it's totally normal as you get closer to "the change". You might want to have your yearly exam if you're over due for that to make sure nothing else is going on but if you're current on your exams I wouldn't worry about it, just make sure you have supplies in case it comes off schedule.

I'm 28 and before having my son 15 months ago, I was very regular. Every 21 days and it would only last for about 3 days. But now it is every 25 days and lasts for 5 days. I figured it was b/c of having my baby, and have wondered if it will get longer and farther apart with every kid I have.

I am the same way. I go approximately every 5-6 weeks. No big deal. Some women are just irregular that way. In my case though, I have to be tested for that PMDD (I don't know what it stands for) because I turn into a nut case around that time. I do know that you could probably be put on birth control to regulate yourself. Good luck

I'll be 36 in June and ever since I turned 35, my cycle has been whacked out. They have sort of always been whacked out though. I never stay consistent.

I was regular (like clock work) for several months... and then boom, out of the blue I'm 2 weeks late. I also scared myself into thinking I was possibly pg (and my tubes are tied)!! Weird thing is that I had the PMS / PMDD symptoms at the normal time (the week before I should have started), then it eased up, and got bad again the week before I actually started).

Some months they are longer, some are real short (just a few days).

I've just gotten used to it and sort of just go with the flow (no pun intended) LOL

L.,
Ever since I started having periods, mine were always "late". Once I began taking birth control, they came every 28 days like clockwork. Every time I was OFF birth control, they came late again.
I got my tubes tied last summer, so there is no longer a need for me to take birth control. Since then they have been getting further and further apart. I'm now at about every six weeks. Think about it... that means I only have about 8 periods a year. I'm not complaining, and neither is my family, cuz that means less PMS!! MY cycle just seems to be naturally longer than "most" women. I wonder if there are more women out there like me? I've talked to a few different doctors about it, and all my pap tests come out normal. The docs don't seem too concerned. Of course, that's just my story, for what it's worth. ~T.

Hi L.,
Ask around with your female family members, ie, mom, aunts, relatives, if you have those resources, that is. How old were they, when they went through menopause? Not that that is what you are going through, now, but as you get a little bit older, you are constantly going though a change, ever so slightly, in your hormones. It is a very gradual process, and can cause differences in your cycles, as the months and years go by. At least, this is what I have experienced, myself, and have read of this as a normal gradual change. Hope this helps, try reading up on it, see if it makes sense to you. J. C. RN
