Abdominal Pain & Other Symptoms

I have recently developed some pretty intense abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting (only once), changes in bowel movements, & extreme abdominal bloating! I had my daughter, almost 2 years ago now, by emergency c-section! I have an appt. scheduled to help find out the reason for these symptoms. I have been doing my research on the internet, & I have narrowed it down to IBS & the possibility of scar tissue causing obstructions in my bowel. Has anyone had to have surgery to remove scar tissue? Did you have any of these symptoms? I'm really scared to get that diagnosis, because I had a horrible recovery after having my daughter! I would appreciate any feedback & I'm aware of the possibility that it could be something totally different! Your help & support is appreciated!!

How about celiac disease, which is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder of the small intestine or gluten-related disorders ? Eating gluten sets off an autoimmune response that causes the destruction of the the villi in the lining of the small intestine. It is also causes inflammation and destroys digestive enzymes. When people adhere to a gluten free life style the body repairs it self. the best of luck, Nan

Hopefully your appointment with your doctor is soon. Just be patient until then and don't 'self-diagnose'. Of course, be sure to share all your symptoms and issues with your doctor and be sure he or she checks everything out. In the meantime, looking up everything on the internet and assuming you have a major complication will do nothing but completely stress you out. Please trust a professional with training and experience before assuming you have a major health problem.

Be patient, have faith, and hope for the best.

I would look into having your gallbladder looked at. My friend just had similar symptoms and she thought it was IBS but come to find out it was her gallbladder.

I have never had the scar tissue but unfortunately I am very familiar with IBS and as someone mentioned gall stones. - First the gall stones- if it is your gall bladder you will get alot of pain right under your sternum and around your right side- it happened to me after I would eat something greasy- the gall bladder stores bile and after you eat greasy foods it is supposed to release it to help with digestion. If you have gall stones (which are very commom post partum from all your insides being crammed together:) they block the bile from leaving and it swells and becomes painful. I had mine removed it was happening so much- not a bad surgery- its outpaitent and you only have 4 small scars.
And now for the IBS- heres the best way to tell- number one- do you have alot of stress? that is a big trigger and sometimes you don't even realize how much you have until you really think about it. Also track what you eat- are certain foods triggering "episodes" it could even be like lactose intolerance. The bloating the pain and the changes in bowel movements are all in line with IBS. Generally you have a tremendous amount of gas and I know for me it is sometimes so painful that I feel like I'm going to pass out. My dr actually put me on an antidepressant to control it which I wasn't thrilled about but it really helped- that way my stress didn't go directly to my stomach:) Good luck- sometimes it can take awhile to figure these things out. I would recommend though before you go to the dr to write down everything you eat and when your symptoms occur that can really help them with diagnosis.

This is weird...I had the same thing about 3 weeks ago and went through all sorts of testing, exrays, abdominal ultrasounds...
Then I just found out that one of my best friends had the same symptoms about a week ago and was hospitalized for testing. We were both told the it was more then likely gall stones and that they probably "passed" before being detected at the doctors. I was told gall stones are very common post partum!?! I had my baby almost exactly a year prior and my friend just had her second baby about 2 months ago.
I hope you feel better, the pain is obnoxious, I know!!

I have IBS. One easy way to figure it out is to keep track of what you eat and the ingredients. Then make a diary of when you have pain, bloating and such. Caramel coloring is a trigger for me and it is the base used to color colas. If the pain does not correspond to specific food intake and/or does not go away when you eliminate that food it is probably not IBS.

A family member just had surgery on her bowel and bladder and her recovery is similar to any abdominal surgery. She is not allowed to lift, has to walk for so many minutes a day and she hurts when she moves. Hopefully if you have to have surgery it will be a simple procedure that can be healed without a huge amount of discomfort.
