Abbreviation Confusion

Hi Mamas, I'm sure most of you are going to think I'm really dumb, but after a few months of trying to guess what / who some of you were referring to, I just felt I needed to ask! I think I'm correct in guessing that MIL means mother-in-law and SIL (using the same logic) must mean sister-in-law. I'd just like a "dictionary" for all the other abbreviations commonly used in Mamapedia - eg does DD mean daughter? If so, why a double "d"? I'd be extremely grateful if each of you would type up the list of abbreviations you always use and the word they represent. Thanks Mamas - with your help I'll be just as cryptic as the next person very soon! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

DMMs (Dear Mamapedia Mamas) LOL! Thanks a million for your kind replies. I'll keep my "dictionary" handy ... and might even start tossing in a few abbreviations of my own just to keep things fun! Best wishes to you all. :)

Part of it is context. SIL with she in the sentence is sister-in-law. SIL with he in the sentence is son-in-law.

The extra D is for dear or darling or Damnned!

It took me quite a while to figure the abbreviations our, but I think Cheryl O. has them down pat.

I wondered for a while if there ought to be some sort of link to an abbreviations page; then I realized that once that happened, those abbreviations would go out of fashion and new ones would come in. So perhaps virtual word of mouth is the way to spread the word.

and for those w/grandbabes

dgd - dear grandaughter
dsd - dear grandson

(just remember, sometimes the first "d" in some of the abbr's may take on another word instead of 'dear'... ;-] )
