Hi Mommas!

I have a 1 year old (as of May 14th) she's 16 lbs 4 oz and 27 1/2 inches. Small yes, but hitting all her milestones, most ahead of schedule, so size is no major concern. However, she has been showing signs of some food allergies so we have made an appt with a ped allergist. In the mean time, she has been refusing food at most meals and, the past few days, has been sleeping A LOT more then usual...like 2-3 hrs more a day, and spent one morning last week vomiting, and is very clingy and fussy. I really want to call our regular ped and request a blood test. I feel like there is something internal going on that we are missing. Am I right on or jumping the gun?

Doctors are there to help the ill whether it is with a question or with an actual illness... Pediatric doctors are well aware that parents tend to overprotect versus under and will call and be seen more often.

NEVER worry about taking your child to be seen or calling your doctor for advice about caring for your ill child or even with questions about the medication he/she is taking!

This is what they have chosen to do for a living and they are aware of all of the questions and such that come with the territory.

Above and beyond...nine times out of ten a mother's sense that there is somethign not right will catch a problem before it can progress too far...

It's when those mom's stamp down their natural reflex that things progress too far...

Good Luck!!! ;-)

You are your child's only true advocate. If you think something is wrong, pursue it.

Hi there,

I rarely respond to request unless I feel I can offer good advice. But if I were you I would call her Doctor immediately. Hope to god it is nothing. But I would call my PED and I would definitly have her checked out.

Good luck.

It's possible that she just has a stomach bug....is she running a fever at all? I would take her in just to be sure. My daughter was tiny too, but she is a happy, healthy 3 year old, so you're right not to worry about her weight if the doctor isn't concerned. She could be sleeping more if she's getting a growth spurt or if she wasn't sleeping well when she was sick, she might be making up for lost time. My son was up several times every night last week due to teething and this week he has been taking unusually long naps, so my guess is he's just catching up on his lost sleep (if only I could do the same)! I would at least call the pedi and ask if they think they should see her. I hope she's feeling better soon and that you can get some answers.

No such thing as jumping the gun in a case like this. What would it hurt to check it out?

Hope all is well.

Always follow your mama brain. Call the doctor. May not be what you think, but you know her best.
