Sorry to be so Prejudice here. But this is what I need. I was born and raised in the mormon faith, (married in the temple infact) I don't need anyone to complain about how discriminating I sound, so don't start the outrage. I simply need a referral. I have found my true happiness outside of the church and have been a non-member for 4 years. I don't need any one telling me that my marriage is at risk due to the change in heart.( I get it enough from both sides of my family) I have a fabulous relationship with my husband, but have a few kinks in our marriage that need to be ironed out. We always have said it would be nice to 'vent' to an outsider, and get there professional advice. I am simply looking for recommendations for a good Non- LDS therapist here in Utah. Is that possible?

What can I do next?

I am a non mormon in Utah....I have been to shepherds staff for counseling, which is next to my church, good shepherd lutheran church. If you would like to talk sometime, email me at ____@____.com I went through the same thing, and girl hang in there. God will win your husbands heart away from mormonism if you pray diligently.

Take care and God Bless You

Actually - most of them are non-lds. I have had a difficult time finding an LDS one for me and my husband. I have been looking for one that shares my beliefs and values as I don't believe a marriage should die when you do. I wish I could remember some of the names that we started with (none of them were lds)- we ran into problms as it is important to find a good therapist that shares your feeling and values LDS or not.

I imagine if you called or looked up marriage couselors and simply asked via the phone if they were lds they would not mind answering that. They are pretty understanding that someone is or is not comfortable with varying faiths. As long as you are not going through LDS social services you are likely going to find one.
Good luck. I hope you work things out.

I am going to school this fall to be a counselor, and I commend you for be willing to do therapy just to vent and work out some kinks. So many people think it is taboo to go to counseling at all, but I feel it is important to have an unbiased outlet. Unfortunately, I do not have a recommendation for you, and I dont know what your past experience has been with counselors, but I would just like to let you know that regardless of a counselors religion they are held to a code of ethics to remain unbiased. I would hope that unless you want to know you would not have any idea what the religious affiliation is of your counselor. A good counselor should in no way be projecting their religious views upon you. Good luck to you and your family.

I saw a therapist (only once) named Lorraine Kilpatrick who said she was not LDS her number is ###-###-####. Her office is in the Ft. Union area.
You might also want to look for someone who bills him/herself as a "Christian Counselor" or check with a clergy member for recommendations. I hope this helps.

You can't ask your insurance company about a therapist's religion, but you can ask where they went to school. I had a friend who was trying to find a non-LDS therapist for her kids & she basically weeded out any of them who went to BYU. Then she asked the therapist questions about religion w/out asking her directly what her religion was. Hope that helps!

I am LDS, and I don't know anyone off hand, but my husband used to lease office space for some therapists- but I don't know if he is LDS or not- but leaning to not- His name is Steve Szykula - there is a few different therapist in that office, but I really don't know anything about them. You can always call & ask the receptionist there. Their # is ###-###-####. Best of luck & all the happiness in all that you do. :)

My husband just told me that they may not have marriage therapy in their office- just psyciatric stuff- So I did a google search & found this http://www.marriagemax.com/marriage-counseling-alternativ...
It may be helpful.
I also found this http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/ppc/state/Utah.html.... Maybe you can search the area & see if you can look through creditials then call the office to see if there are any therapist that are non LDS. I think most offices would be okay with that question. :) Best wishes.

I have an excellent counselor that helped me with my relationship with my now ex-husband (Iraqi veteran that returned very ill, not from counseling). Before he took off to Iraq he was a stellar guy but we had some kinks to work out. We went faithfully for 6 months and I have never had a better relationship. Of course this was pre war. The war really tore us apart. Our counselors name is Michelle. I still go to her and love her style. I am not sure what religion of choice if any that she follows. The subject has never come up & I've never thought it pertinent to ask. I've been seeing her on and off for the last 3 years and just love her. She is in Taylorsville and her number is ###-###-####
I hope this helps,
M.
