A Bruised Feeling on My Pregnant Belly

I went to see my OB last week for a regular check up and while I was there I mentioned to her that even though there wasnt any marks on my stomach and I hadent done anything like hit my stomach to cause this that I was having this feeling of my stomach being bruised. She said that it was probably just internal bruising from the baby being cramped for space and that its normal. Im 35 weeks and I am naturally a small person so I can definietly see that this baby has no room to move around but I find it odd that I am having these so called normal pains. When I was there the pain had been gone for maybe a day and then all of a sudden they came back again a few days after my appointment. I have had them in the same general area for about 2-3 days now and they freakin hurt. Does this sound like anything that any of you Mommas have experienced with pregnancy before?
Thanks in advance

I had that feeling for the last month and a half or so. Better on some days worse on others. No idea if you can do anything about it but yeah, sounds normal.

I know what you're talking about. When I was probably about 32 weeks along my little one had pushed really hard on my belly and it felt like it was bruised!!! It hurt bad!! I had called the nurse about it after a few days and asked if my baby could bruise the inside of my belly. She really didn't think so but wanted me to come in for a urine and weight check. That all turned out fine and I delivered a 9 pound 13 ounce baby who was 23 inches long!!! So my guess is - he was running out of room!!! I can't really give you any advice on how to get it to stop......I would just rub the area a lot!! I really thought I was the only one that it's happened to!!

The baby takes so much space it's pushing on your abdomen and just to touch it used to almost hurt. Or that's what I assumed it was. Try not to touch that area or bump it at all and you will be over with this before you know it.

I had a ton of that during my late pregnancy, and I am also a small person.

However, I had to have an ultrasound every week because of concerns of how my son was growing... And the bruised feeling was always worse after an ultrasound (They push that damn wand around so hard I'm surprised the bruises weren't visible).

braxton hicks are something that happens to everyone if that's whats happening to you they feel like cramps or contractions that can emulate labor pains, plus when your so close to the due date they happen more frequently. There is also the chance you may have a bruised muscle from the baby moving to much or you moving wrong at some point and may not have felt immediate pain but now have residual pain. If this is your first you will definitely become more concerned than necessary because its all new to you. BUT remember YOU KNOW YOUR BODY BETTER THAN ANYTHING and a DOCTOR KNOWS IF SOMETHING WERE TO BE WRONG. so just keep your doc posted on pains but also relax, no need to stress too much cause you can go in to early labor by doing so. and if there is something truly wrong then go to the maternity ward triage and have them check you out. but be forewarn they don't always believe you. i have gallstones but didn't find out till i was 38 weeks preggo and i went to the triage everyday till they admitted me because i wasn't able to eat and was vomiting everything i did eat, and had such sever pains that i was unaware i was in labor. it wasn;t until after i delivered that they were able to find out what was really wrong. so make sure your if this pain continues well in to your 39-40 weeks then have the doc refer that you have it checked out!

I had that with my last one. There was an area that just totally felt like I must have been punched or something, which I know did not happen. Sometimes it hurt on its own and other times if I bumped up against something or even rubbed my hand across it, it hurt. And other times, nothing.

Do you have a triage number to call at the Birth Center you're slated to go to? I have read that pain in the abdomen can be a warning sign too. If it hurts as bad as you say, it can't hurt to just call or go in and have the folks in delivery check it out.

I had that when i was first getting the belly this time, i never found out what it was either, but i suppose thats as good an answer as any. We have to stretch a lot really fast and we do get kicked and punched a lot from the inside.
