8 Weeks Pregnant - Stabbing Pain - Normal???

So I’m sleeping last night and wake to terrible stabbing pain on my right side. Evidently I was turning in my sleep and I had my arm stretched too far. I don’t know. Anyhow, it still hurts, but just a little. Do you think it’s my muscles stretching or could it be something else?

History: We've been TTC for 3 years and have had one miscarriage. I have a wonderful almost 5 y/o son.

What can I do next?

I don't know exactly where in your side the pain occurred, but it has happened to me for various reasons.

1. Dehydration. Were your lips also cracked? I find I have to drink water before bed and keep water next to the bed while I am pregnant.

2. Ovarian cyst. I had one of these with both pregnancies, and it's not a bad thing. My doc told me it helps produce extra progesterone to support the pregnancy and usually resolves itself in the second trimester.

3. Positioning and/or gas. OK, to be honest, I am a much gassier person while pregnant, and the positions I sleep in can aggravate the issue. Try walking it out, perhaps, and see what passes.

It is unlikely threatening to your pregnancy, but my doc has always told me that my peace of mind is as important as any medicine or procedure they can offer while I am pregnant, so if you're really worried, see if they can squeeze you in.

Best wishes.

It could just be that the muscle was stretched further than it would normally allow due to the relaxation hormones that your body is subject to now that you're pregnant. (meaning the hormones that make our joints looser and less stable). If you don't think it's something innocent like that, then def go see your OB about it. If you're pretty sure it's no big deal then just mention it at your next appointment and get his/her opinion.

Did it feel like someone stabbed you with an ice pick on you side? Might be round ligament pain which is very common in pregnancy. In any event, a quick call to your ob can set your mind at ease.

Sounds like you may have pulled a muscle. I would call the dr, I would rather them let me it was nothing than worry about it.

I agree, it is most likely gas. Get you some tums and stay hydrated! :)
