My little guy has had a cough for a long time....no fever, no nothing just the cough. He gags and throws up on occasion.....any ideas of something I can do to help relieve his coughing?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went to the doctor when it first started, she tested for RSV and looked at his ears and stuff...test was negative no infections. Just a cough, I think I might try the humidifier. Thank you for your suggestions.

Could possibly be an asthmatic cough. Check with your doctor. Asthma
does not necessarily mean wheezing.

baby vicks on chest and bottom of feet put socks on...helps with congestion and cough, also cool mist humidifier ... but,i think with it going on for so long it might could possibly be some type of condition I would go ahead and make an appointment.

Have you tried running a cool mist humidifier in his room at night?
Hope he's better soon.

I have to second the post about a decongestant. Or maybe an antihistmine would work better? My little one had a horrible cough for over a month. so much so that he gagged and threw up a few times also. I tried a humidifier, vics plug in, vics vapor rub, etc. Nothing really worked. Ask your Dr if he's heard of DAllergy. Its the only thing that seems to work for my son. It has two antihistamines in it and something else. It really drys them up, so they have nothing left to cough up and gag on. It is a RX only though. My son is 8 months as well and they gave me the proper dosage, etc for his weight.

Oh gosh! My oldest son is now 18 (yikes!) and when he was about 16 months we went through the same thing. An unexplained cough for about 4 months. He would cough a lot at night and to the point that he would also throw up. We went to 4 different doctors. Pediatricians, ENTs, Asthma, Allergists. No answers. Xrays, blood work, and they even tested him for cystic fibrosis. Needless to say, I was COMPLETLY NUTS after all this. All came back fine, but still no answers as to why the cough. Finally, went to a pediatric pulmonologist and they said he had a very slight post nasal drip. After all that what a relief. They gave him a medicine called "extendryl". The medicine has a drying agent in it. Cleared up the cough in about 3 days. Hang in there, it will get better!
