Im getting a 6 week ultrasound on July 10th. They want to measure to confirm the due date. Also my dr says my uterus is enlarged bigger than it normally should be. So they also need to check to see whats up. I had a set of fraternal twins 8 years ago. I read that have another set is 1 in 12 ....... Im curious of course. Having a enlarged uterus could also be other things as well. Anyways, has anyone heard or saw their baby's heartbeat at 6 wks? And has annyone ever had the enlarged uterus situation?

I had the same thing five years after having twins. I started showing at six weeks even though there was only one baby in there. My uterus was just extra good at stretching after having two in there at once:) And yes, I saw the heartbeat, but mine was at 8 weeks instead of six.

I had ultrasounds with both of my babies to date them about this age. You can see the heartbeat and really its just a buch of round cells in a blob. But, its really neat to look at. There is nothing that looks like a baby though. More like a Science/Health channel video. So, don't be disappointed because it takes a long time to grow something that looks like a baby. I don't know about the enlarged uterous, but its probably is because your body is ready to grow 2 babies. Good luck and let us know what happens.

My first I had an enlarged uterus. But she was a singleton. I did however carry huge!!!!!! She was a large baby (almost 9 lbs), but I just had a ton of amniotic fluid at the end. Not sure why I measured big at the beginning as well, but it turned out to be nothing.

My Doc does a vaginal sonogram, in office, It is also called a transvaginal ultrasound
With both my pregnancies, I have had this done at about 5 weeks. My Doc does it to:
Check/confirm the size/"age" of the "baby."
due date etc. And to have a baseline of info, and at this time to check for the heartbeat. And yes, I saw the heartbeat myself and the "baby," at this time. With both my pregnancies.

Have no idea what the enlarged uterus, may indicate.

I think that it's definitely possible to see the heartbeat, like others have posted in their experience. It would be unlikely to hear it just yet, though. And the ultrasound will need to be vaginal to see anything at this early of a point in your pregnancy.

It could be that you are farther along than you think?

I don't know anything about the enlarged uterus situation. I'm guessing your uterus has been stretched by two before, so that might have something to do with it.

You should be able to see a faint heartbeat by 6 weeks. It's nice to get a look and be sure all is well.

I found out very early with this pregnancy, and had my first sonogram very early as well and yes, by my 6-week (vaginal) sonogram we were able to see the baby's heart beating. I haven't had any experience with the enlarged uterus. Would you be so excited to have another set of twins?!

It is possible to see your baby's heartbeat at 6 weeks: you can not hear it yet though Most sonogram machines do not magnify the fetus so it will look like a pulsing blob at this point but it DEF has a heartbeat. The only way they may not be able to "find" the fetus is if you are actually NOT 6 weeks but less (this happened to me): then they may opt to do an internal/probe sonogram, which will find it more easily. This method still produces an image with a heart beat most of the time as there is less tissue to go through rather than the traditional external method. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!! First trimester is the most accurate to date the fetus and is the most likely cause for the sonogram in the first place so do not be alarmed or surprised if you are not actually 6 weeks along.
