Honestly, I think you should just pick him up, do whatever it takes to get him back to sleep and put him down again. If he wakes up he is not really asleep yet and feels like you are abandoning him and he doesn't like it. Start pleasant sleep associations that don't involve you if you have not done this already. I like the music aquariuam that the baby can push himself if he needs soothing. A mobile, and a lovie are also good. For whatever reason he is feeling sensitive and wants love from you. I think give him what he needs and make the crib as safe and wonderful place as possible. Soon, he will not need you if he wakes up...this is my experience at least. Teething can take a while...definetly makes babies much more sensitive.
