My daughter never rolled over. Wasn't mobile in the slightest until 12 months, and even then got around by scooting on her butt. Walked at 16 months.
Now she's almost 6 and can run, jump, and skip with the best of 'em.
So yeah, don't worry.
I'm a first time mom, so first of all, I have no idea what to expect when it comes to my daughter! She's constantly surprising me!
Kayleigh rolled over from back to tummy first when she was about 4 months old. I think it was more by accident. :) From tummy to back has been another issue... she just doesn't do it. I can use every toy we have and wiggle it around her, and only then will she consider doing it. I've seen her roll in both directions a handful of times. Hates tummy time... we've been doing that since she was 2 weeks old!
About 2 weeks ago, she started sitting up on her own REALLY well. She can even sit on the floor, bend over and lick her toes! And then go back up to sitting! HA! What a crazy girl! She LOVES to just sit still and watch my husband and I... she's very chill and relaxed. (unless she's over tired like last night, she had a giggle fit!) I have a feeling I know what the advice will be... all babies are different and they will do whatever they want in their own time. But I find it odd that at nearly 7 months old she has no interest in being mobile.
Any thoughts?? Would love your advice on how to encourage her to roll... like I said, she has done it before... just several months ago and only a few times! Will any of this interfere with her ability to crawl? The fact that she can sit on her own is pretty good, I think... ??
At 7-1/2 months old, Kayleigh rolled over, and over, and over again, one morning when my husband and I were playing with her on the floor. We looked stunned... like, has she been practicing and she just didn't tell us? :) Now at 8 months old today, she's rocking on her belly, and rolls side to side to get closer to objects... next step, waiting for her to crawl! :) Thanks for the advice!!

my daughter didn't roll over until she was 9 months! I worried too and then I realized all kids do things on their own time :) Would you believe the girl didn't crawl until she was close to a year old and walk then until she was 14 months??!!! LOL
Her doctor said it was perfectly normal, and I'm sure yours would say the same. :) if you need some reassurance, make an appt with her doctor and talk over your concerns!
enjoy they time when she isn't moving! before you know it, you'll be chasing her around.
take care!
I love reading about first time moms, I did all the same silly worrying. Then when baby #2 comes it's like "eh, whenever.... He'll get it." so that's my advice- she will get it. Just keep doing lots of tummy time, do fun rolls with her legs, and just enjoy. A few more months she'll be cruising so fast around the house, rolling will be second nature. Then Baby proofing the house will be your biggest concern! And kissing lots of banged head boo boo! :-) enjoy the time now!!
She sounds like she is on her way. Just let her be.. maybe you and your husband can get on the floor and roll around.. see if she will mimick you, but I promise very soon it will happen..
One of my children was late to sit, late to roll, late to stand, late to walk. There wasn't anything the matter; she just wasn't in a hurry. Now she's an elementary school teacher and has to be in a hurry most of the time!
If your doctor isn't worried, you don't need to be. Once she starts walking (and running), you may be thankful for the rest you've had so far.
I worried about this a lot. My son refused to roll over. He just wouldn't. Went straight to crawling then walking without ever achieving that roll-over milestone I was told to look for. I tried everything to get him to roll, demonstrating with myself, toys, the dog, other people, rolling him over myself, putting favorite toys in his path, even dangling a bottle. Nothing, nada, no rolling. Remember these are guidelines, babies don't have to do them. I think that's why they give us so many. She is sitting just fine and engaged so I'm sure she's fine. Just lazy! This will in no way affect her ability to crawl, walk, run... my son is a terror on two tiny feet. Good luck.
Ha ha! Well, if it makes you feel any better, my older daughter REFUSED to roll over, and screamed her head off to the point that she'd throw up during tummy time. What she REALLY wanted to was to stand up, and she loved to be held up so she could "walk." We finally just got her one of those exersaucers and gave up on tummy time and rolling over. She began walking early, and now that she's 8 years old, she is very athletic and graceful. So... the refusal to roll over didn't really mean anything other than she hated the view from the floor and didn't want to look at it any closer! Your little girl clearly has the proper muscle coordination and strength if she can sit up, bend down, and sit back up again. I wouldn't give it another thought. Let her show you what she wants to do, and then try to find a way for her to do it! Clearly she has her own ideas!
Sara,
Both my girls were not too interested in rolling over. My first daughter hated tummy time and I feel like I basically taught her to roll over, front to back and back to front. She did it some, but just was not into it. She did crawl at ten months and then walked at thirteen months. My second daughter was the same way. We taught her to roll from front to back and back to front. She did it some, but just wasn't interested. She crawled a little before ten months and then walked at a little before thirteen months. So, as long as she has done it, do not worry. It sounds like she is on track with the sitting up. Next time you go to the pediatrician, just mention your concern and I am sure that he/she will reassure you!
