Hi,

A very good friend of mine is turning 50 next month and I'd like to get her something wonderful. I'm looking for creative ideas to make her feel special and to let her know that she is good friend. I don't want to put her interests here because I just want to see what kind of ideas pop up here - sorry I know that's annoying. Everyone here always has such great inputs. She has always come through for me when I needed and is great shoulder to lean on - I'd like to spend around $100.

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

You can always get her a Spa Day thing. Massage, Facial, Pedicure that will make her feel rejuvenated and special! I mean what girl doesnt love to get pampered?

You can always schedule all that together and make it a girls day out type of thing and get lunch afterwards.

Could you get together with her hubby or kids and get some pictures of her of her life and have it made into a DVD? Start with baby picures and go all the through to today. Get as many pictures as you possibly can. Have a sound track with music from the different eras of her life and maybe a voice over. For instance a picture of her as a toddler playing in a pool with a voice over saying 'and the bathing beauty of 19xx or pictures of school plays or concerts with the voice over saying 'and the Oscar or Grammy goes to..." As long as she has a good sense of humor she should get a kick out of it. Adding year book and college pics as well as her wedding pictures and pictures as she raised her kids and welcomed grandkids, vacations pics ect. I would put it together in chronological order as much as possible.

Not sure if this would be something you'd like but on my brother's 50th birthday, our mom got him a money tree, about 5 ft. tall, very pretty. She attached 50 one dollar bills to the leaves. He had not only $50 cash but a really nice indoor plant. Everyone at his party thought it was a really nice gift!

Just read the previous answer. I sure would have loved a spa day when I turned fifty! But I'm not saying how long ago that was.

If you want to include the number in the gift, instead of some sort of gift card you could give her fifty silver dollars, or fifty gold dollars. Or fifty roses. Or fifty iris, if roses are too pricey (which they will be if your friend's birthday is before Valentine's Day). Or fifty chocolate truffles, if her tastes go in that direction. Fifty is a GREAT number to be!

Are you able to contact her relatives and longtime friends and get pictures of her? You could do an album about her first half-century and how you're looking forward to her second half-century.

When my friend turned 50 I had no idea what to get her. She has exquisite taste so I was terrified to buy her something and a gift card just wasn't my style so I bought some beautiful high quality cards in a box and entitled them 50 things we love about ---. I handed them out to the other guests and everyone wrote something on a card or two. She loved it and takes it out when she wants a smile

I could make her a gorgeous patchwork throw made from wool sweaters for $100!
