Try using a defrizzing product to help keep it tame. You might even take her to a hair stylist to get it thinned out some so it does not look wild... and he/she can make some suggestions on how better to keep it under control.
My 5 year old daughter has slightly wavy hair past her shoulders, just enough bend to fly all over, not enough to be curly. Problem is it always looks wild! I'll brush it, 10 minutes later it looks like it hasn't seen a brush in weeks. I do pull the bangs back (she's growing them out), but she won't let me put the rest of it up - she just takes it back out.
I usually just use a kids shampoo on her hair then use a leave-in conditioner. Honestly, I haven't seen any difference from when I use the conditioner or not - it's still a mess.
Any ideas to keep her hair looking neat, at least brushed?

Well, I would switch from a kids shampoo to an adult shampoo and conditioner first. Kids shampoos seemed to dry my girls hair out even more. Then, you have to decide if you want to lean towards curly, wavy hair, or straightening it. Honestly, my 5 year old has terrible hair, but if I dry it with a round brush, then touch it up with a straigtener, followed by some anti frizz cream, it looks pretty good. Cutting her hair into a cute bob for a while also helped, esp while growing the bangs out and dealing with a kid who refused any sort of pony tail!! You will have to work with it just like you would your own..I have 3 girls and hair fixing takes me a bit..but I cant let them head off looking scrappy! Have fun trying..~A.~
i second the drying effects of kids' shampoos -- just be careful w/ a moisturizing shampoo made for adults & i think you'll appreciate the difference.
also, i think the little head scarves by babydews or oopa are so gorgeous! (they're not like the rag-looking like bandana things my grandmother used to wear, especially the silk oopas -- their colors are so luscious they look very classy) ;D
I just read an article for hair conditioner yesterday that said use a little bit of body lotion. You put the lotion in your hands and then rub it into the hair and that keeps it under control and less frizzy. Can't hurt to try it. The other S.
Hello A.,
I've been using NEEM shampoo & conditioner (at sprouts/whole foods, healthfood stores) for the past 2 years and I'm very happy with it. whenever I try something else, my daughter's hair gets so dry, unruly and super tangled that overnight it looks like furball! look for shampoo/conditioner without alcohol. try to deep condition it once/week --just leave conditioner on for 3-5 minutes.
by the way, I LOVE neem shampoo because it's also a lice deterrent. good luck! ~C.~
I use Garnier Fructis leave-in conditioner (?). Sorry, I don't recall the name off-hand. lol It is a small, green bottle with a pull-spout at the top. It leaves my daughter's hair looking gorgeous! I wish mine looked half as good. lol Anyway, it is very light, compared to some others I've tried, and I just put a small dab on my hand and rub it on the ends. The frizz goes away, and it's not as puffy.
gel may help. Rub in in your palms and then (comb) through her hair with you fingers, and this will put the gel throughout, and I think this will help.
Dear A.,
I was a hair dresser for 30 years and what I found to help is. Go to a beauty supply and get a bottle of SILK THERAPY it only take a drop or two .Rub you hand together and work it in th hair. See if that won't help it's not cheap but a little goes a long ways. Also the less you can brush it that makes it more fly away.I always though it was good to brush it,but found out not so. Hope this will help. The brand name of thr product is FAROUK.
Good Lock

Hi A.,
I would suggest wetting the hair in the mornings with a spray detangler and then comb out with large tooth comb or a pick (like for really curly or permed hair). Allow it to dry naturally and you will see a difference. When you brush it you just make the little bit of wave frizzy and unruly.
My daughters hair is the same way. Johnson & Johnson makes a shampoo for wavy hair it's a shampoo + conditioner and it's green and thats what we use. I also put an anti frizz gel on her hair while it is still wet. As crazy as people say I am I straighten her hair in the morning but I spray it with one of those products that's supposed to help keep the heat from damaging her hair. My daughter wouldn't let me do her hair either until I started letting her pick out her hair stuff I would give her options of hair ties and bows whatever matched her outfit and she would let me do it as long as she got to pick out the accessories...GOOD LUCK
My daughter has the same hair! While she was growing out her bangs, I twisted them all together and pulled them back and clipped them on top of her head. It looked really cute, and sometimes I straighten her hair. It lookes really good when I do, but I only do it every so ofter as to not ruin her hair.
