Hi moms,

My 5 year old(she will be 6 in march) wet the bed for the first time last night. She has never wet the bed before. She normally sleeps with my husband and I at night, but she got a new bunk bed for christmas and decided she wanted to sleep in that. The first night she slept in there until about 4 am then crawled in the bed with us. Last night she fell asleep in our bed, we carried her to her bed, but she woke up about 1 and got back in our bed. That's when she wet the bed. Luckily we have a big bed and i didn't end up laying in it! I don't know if getting the bunk bed could be the problem, or maybe she is worried about starting a new school next year (we are trying to sell our house and we have told her that she will be going to a new school next year). Any suggestions on what to do?

What can I do next?

Don't get out the "jump to conclusions" mat just yet!
Maybe it was a fluke.
Wait to see if there is a pattern OR a second time.
For now, put a waterproof cover on the mattresses.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again, and again. Her sleep is being interrupted in a new way, there are changes happening in her life. I woud remind her that if she is up and needs to go, she can ask you for help or go by herself. I would make sure there is a light in the bathroom.

I wouldn't worry. Most kids have accidents every now and then. Maybe she was just really comfortable and didn't want to get up. It happens. My child is 6 and did the same thing at 5. He told me that he didn't know he did it. He doesn't like wetting the bed. He was really tired that day. He hasn't done it since, but I make sure he go to the toliet before he falls asleep. Sometimes he drinks a lot of water and waits to the last minute to go to the bathroom.

Since this is something she has never done before you may go have her checked by the pediatrician. She may have a bladder infection or something (this was the cause for me when i was a child as like your daughter i had never wet the bed before and only ever did it when i had a bladder or kidney infection).
