5 Mo. Old with Purple Arm & Leg

My 5 month old daughter has had three separate occasions where just one of her arms or legs (never the same one and on different sides of her body) turns dark purple. The arm or leg does not feel cold and the color returns when the part is moved or rubbed. She does not have any swelling or fever and she does not seem to notice when it happens. Has anyone experienced this?

So What Happened?

I took her to the doctor yesterday but they didn't seem to think it was a big deal but they didn't really know since they haven't heard of this before. They said that maybe her circulatory system isn't fully developed yet. They are also having a bunch of blood work done to rule out anything else and they are sending her to a dermatologist to see if they can figure it out. I am still a little worried - I don't like it when doctors don't know what is wrong.

Take her to the doctor. It could be a problem with her circulation or her heart. Take her immediately.

My son had the same problem. At 6 months of age we had an EKG done on him and it came back normal. The doctor determined that he had an immature circulatory system and it would eventually stop. A couple of months later it did.

Talk to the doctor about it. She is having some kind of circulation problems and you need to find out what is causing them.
