Hello,
I had the similar situation with my son. Although this may sound a bit strange but it worked for us.... We had "magic underpants". My son too would go in his pants. I took an old pair of underwear and cut a slit/hole in the butt. When he had to go, he sat on the potty with the "magic underpants" on. When he went, the poop dropped through the hole and into the potty. Eventually we worked our way to just the waistband (cutting away all the material) and finally.... the "magic underpants" "disappeared" all together.:-) Good luck!

Try holding his hand while he's on the toilet until he's comfortable. My daughter was the same way. She was afraid of it hurting her, she'd cry, scream and holler. I'd hold her hand to ease her nerves and finally she'd go. Encourage him that big boys go poopie on the big boys toilet. Hope this works for you. The key is relaxing his mind.

I can't say I have been in this situation, but I can share what I was doing to potty train my kids. If they went on the toilet #1 or #2, they got a treat (mini m&m's at the time). Since he is older, you can use a larger treat - even an outing if he goes several days in a row. On the flip side, if you think he is doing this to spite you or for negative attention, I would let him know calmly that this is unacceptable behavior, and that if it continues, he will get priveleges taken away (video games, tv shows, a special toy, etc.) If you think he just can't get to the toilet in time because he is so busy playing outside or distracted by something else, you might want to try instituting a toilet time every 15 minutes around the time he usually does #2 in his pants (if he typically does it around the same time of day). You may also want to contact his physician about possible disorders. I knew a boy who had a disorder that made him poop in his pants without his control. Good luck!

I had a similar situation with my son when he was 3. He was resisting a bit with potty training as well. I did something that may sound a bit harsh, but he got the picture. Rewards were not working at all for him. So, one day during his nap I put away all the big boy toys and left out only a few rattles & baby toys. I explained to him that going in his pants is what babies do, not big boys. So, when he was ready to be a big boy, he could play with all the things big boys play with. I gave him one of his own toys back with each success on the potty. I also turned off the TV until he was ready to be a big boy. He got the idea almost instantly. We gave him the toys back within one or two days.

Good Luck!

My nephew's been to drs about his poopy issues. One said to use a stool, to put his feet on while going potty. I guess it is difficult physically for him to poop with his feet dangling (since they don't reach the floor yet). The feet should be able to be flat on the stool while sitting on the potty.
