My son had hip displasia when he was born. He was treated with a Pavlick harness, but when got out of it one side of his body was stiff. That caused him to turn his head to one side causing plagiocephaly(mild/moderate). My pediatrician, as well as PT, told me it would round out on its own. I did not know about helmets until it was too late.I have been taking him to an Osteopath who also says it should "normalize by 5". I am just wondering if anybody else has seen improvement of head shape over time or not? Also, any tips on dealing with the guilt that is consuming me!

Check and see if a chiropractor could help...... Go to one who specializes and takes extra training in children. Craniosacrial thearpy may help him.....? Our chiropractor did this for our son (as a newborn) because of the head trauma he endured during delivery.

I have a 6 year old who dealt with similar plagiocephaly as an infant. We did not go the helmet route. I whole-heartedly agree with Miranda W. about craniolsacrial therapy with a recommended natureopathic chiropractor. He did wonders for my daughter. She still has a flat spot, but it is not noticeable to anyone else and has certainly not impeded her development. In fact, she is just incredibly bright and gifted (if I do say so myself). CHeck it out at least! You don't sound like someone who neglected the situation. You can;t know everything! I cried like a baby when she had her first consult and I realized all the things she was struggling with could have been helped if we had sought treatment sooner. But we just didn't know. We make a lot of mistakes as parents, but somehow our kids turn out awesome and healthy despite. Chalk it up to experience and next time you will be all the wiser.

my son had the same problem with head but he couldnt get a helmet because he was under the inch lenth, he is now 5 1/2 and it has gotten somewhat better, also took him to a chiropractic and that helped as well.

I would seek out a second opion from a specialist. If your town doesn't have a good children's facility, perhaps check out ABQ. I know UNM Hospital is cutting edge-

Guilt? You can't feel guilt. Turn that guilt into motivation. Fight for your son.
The medical system isn't always right and there are lots of lazy doctors out there that don't actually care about the work they do.

Definitely a second opinion- and I would google for support groups for what you are going through.

Best luck!!!!
