4 Year Old Son Is Starting to Wet the Bed Again

My son has been potty trained now for a year and a half. he's been great with waking up dry until now. For the last week, he has woken up wet every morning. We make him go pee before bed, and he has to pee soooo bad first thing in the morning, but still has an accident. we are now going to try to limit his fluid intake before bed, however this was never a problem before so I dont know why it is now. However we will do that.
I can only wonder if it's because of a few changes that have happened in his life. We are expecting another child in 2 weeks. He got a new 'big boy room". But thats about it. Any suggestions??

What can I do next?

Those are alot of changes for a little guy. Also know that when a new baby is about to arrive or just after they arrive older children tend to back track some on things like potty training. Just make sure that he gets alot of attention and specail time with mom and dad, like I said this is alot of change and getting that special time seems to put young ones at ease and makes that transition easier. Good Luck!!

I think it is normal for children to revert. Put him in pull ups at bed time and tell him he can stop wearing them when he has been dry for 7 days. (the point of diapers is to save on laundry)

Could be, or it could also be nothing...
Every body part grows at a different rate than others. Perhaps his bladder hasn't gone thru the growth spurt that the rest of is body has...
Maybe he's in such a hurry to get upstairs to his new room that he doesn't fully empty his bladder...
Keep an eye on it and he'll get back to normal again. After about a year of no accidents My almost 5 yr old had a couple of accidents in the same week a few months back and then nothing... It happens I guess... :-)

Congrats on the baby!

I don't know if this will help, but my sister would always have accidents when she got a cold. I don't know what the medical reason would be for that, but when she got better, she wouldn't have trouble staying dry again.
Otherwise, I would say it is a phase and he will be back to staying dry again in a couple weeks.
Congratulations on the baby!

Hello Nancy, Congragulations on your new addition. Yes it is very normal for children of this age to revert back, developmently, when there are major changes or stress in their lives. This is a hard one for children to accept. I was told, when my 3 children were very young, to think of it in terms of my husband bringing home another wife and telling me to deal with it!! It gave me a much clearer picture of what it must be like for older siblings. Give him lots of one-on-one attention when he is behaving. After the baby is born, don't let him get lost in the shuffle. Allow him be the one to show off the baby to visitors when they come to see the baby. Let him do things that he wasn't allowed to do before for being a "big" boy now. Allow him to "help" with the baby, like getting diapers for you, or carring the diaper bag. All of these things will assure him that he isn't being replaced by his new sibling. Good luck, this is a wonderful time in your lives.

My son wets the bed during growth spurts. It's almost as if it takes his bladder a few days to 'catch up'. He sleeps sound and eats a ton during these spurts so I know when they are happening. This last time, though, he didn't wet the bed. He's almost 5...maybe he'll outgrow it.

Also, I learned from another mom on here to make the bed with a mattress pad (reg. or vinyl), then a fitted sheet, then a vinyl mattress cover, then another fitted sheet. If he wets in the night you can just rip off the first set of bedding and have clean underneath.
