Ok i am gonna start watching a 3rd grader and 6th grader this summer to help with our income...my question is
what do kids those age like to do?
I was a 1st grade teachers assistant and have no experince with older kids really. I am afraid they will be bored because i will also have my 9month old son to take care of. I dont drive so we cant go out anywhere...
So i need ideas of stuff to do with the kids in my home....
PLEASE I NEED ADVICE

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice. I do agree about the not buying video games. we have a ps2 but i believe children spend too much time on video games and the internet/tv. i have a bunch of board games, books and if they like arts/crafts i will get some. thanks so much for the advice.

Kids that old will probably bring stuff with them to do. My 3rd grader likes to play video games (probably most kids will have a hand-held game by that age), read, draw pictures and watch movies. If they will have access to a backyard, that is even better (if you can trust them not to climb the fence).

I wouldn't plan too much for them to do before you get to know them better. 3rd graders have pretty definite likes and dislikes. I can assume that 6th graders are even more so. You might want to find out what they like to snack on before hand & stock up. They always seem to be hungry.

You will want to make your computer accessible to them and maybe get an XBOX or some other kind of video game system. Maybe walking to the neighborhood pool or park is a good idea. It will be hot so you might want to invest in a slip n slide to cool off outside. If they are girls, they might enjoy entertaining your baby, but make sure not to let them change diapers. If your in the city you could take the bus to libraries or the zoo. Good luck!

I have a 3rd grader,(guess depends if boy or girl, but for a girl) she enjoys playing outside, swinging, running, jump rope, side walk chalk, playing board games, drawing, use the Internet to find different crafts, she is into making little clothes, just out of paper. If you plan to purchase things than look at half price books they have a lot of nice crafty things and very good prices. Or even Michael's with other ideas. Mine always likes mommie to play too, so do both, I know with a baby only a little time would be available, but she'll appreciate it and not get bored so easy. I would think but grades will play well together. Boys sorry no help there. Best wishes!

Look your giving this way to much thought. Kids know when your trying too hard. I wouldn't go spend money on video games it cost too much money in the first place. Start out getting to know them the first week and they will let you know what their interested in and if you have board games like monopoly or junior scatagories if you don't have these games what a great time to start collecting some for your own children. I wouldn't over think it just let them know your interested in what their interested in and go from there. I hope that helps

IF there is a sams club near you I would go there and pick up and arts and crafts activity book! It works WONDERS! Look online for outside fun stuff to do...make tvs out of boxes and let them decorate them...buy some water guns...little pool? Legos...Painting, coloring, there is so much to do..hope this helps!
