Hey Mamas! So my 2nd grader brings a note home from school yesterday- we have to help her create a 3D model of a firefly (they are doing a bug unit and each kid had to choose a bug- mine chose the firefly). As I don't have a single creative bone in my body I have no clue what we can do. So who's got an idea? It's due Tuesday.

Can you use a lightbulb upside down and fake leather like leaves glued to metal top of lightbulb and bottom of light bulb is butt? Go on Pinterest and search fire fly models. Use pipe cleaners for antenae, etc
Love that one that Veronica P posted! How cute. Here are a few I've found on Pinterest.

Hmmm...you need the 3 body parts, 6 legs, and 2 wings? 4 wings?
The wings could be paper, cut and decorated. The legs could be pipe cleaners (now available at the craft store in colors, since no actually used them for pipes anymore), and you could use a toilet paper tube decorated to use as the body parts. Something for the head...
Good luck!
ETA: Looked at the link below. That's pretty cool. You can get glow sticks at the Dollar Tree, and you may be able to find everything else you need too. I am sure your 2nd grader will have some ideas...
Someone posted a link of the ones made out of plastic eggs, pipe cleaners, an LED candle, and duct tape for the wings. You could use construction paper for the wings and maybe paint the body to make it look a little more "real" or the right colors for the head and wings, but the back end would light up! I made some for my daughters room, which is decorated in fireflies, they are really cute and simple.
empty plastic bottle as the body, use craft wire or pipe cleaners to create the wing shape, then use tissue paper to create the wing membrane.
My kids often use Crayola Model Magic. It's easy to work with, comes in colors or can be painted and it dries in a few hours.
