Okay... I thought I knew how to deal with this whole potty training thing. I trained fully trained 3 already...this is my 4th!!! My son will be 3 on the 1st of October. I didn't push him into using the potty too early...he actually fell outside one day and landed on board with a nail right on his lower bottom. It wasn't bad but I had runnin around butt naked so his diaper wasn't rubbing the sore. Well if he didn't say he had to go pee... So there it started. He even went poop!!! What's up with that!!! ???? No I'm not complaining...just was a little shocked! Now he has been doing great, has had a few accidents, but overall was doing quiet well. I don't know what happened, but for a week now he has been consistantly having accidents. He will NOT use the potty! I have had him sit on it a few times, but with no luck. He has always be given a piece of candy for going potty, and I remind him of that. I make him change himself when he has his accidents. He just doesn't seen to care. I don't know what else to do. Is this really normal. I'm going out of my mind! I'm home with him all day, and I know he can use the potty. He's been doing it WELL for 2 months. Any suggestions on how else to get him back on track...(other than strapping him down on the potty---just kidding LOL) Any and all suggestions welcome! Thank you in advance!

So What Happened?

Well, he's back on track. All it took was a little (well maybe big)push and a change of candy!! Tried a few, but Cookies and cream hershey's kisses did the trick!!! He would even try to go for a hershey kiss!!! Thanks Everyone for your input!

I see that your son was in an accident and from there started to use the potty maybe at that time he felt if I pottied on the floor i'll get into trouble so he did it.Now after a few months he is regressing because maybe his body wasn't actually ready to be potty trained.I have asked this with my second child she is interested in the potty but she is only 19 months old and don't want to force her I feel as if my son we were a lil harder on him because he absolutley refused to poop he'd wait till a week later and then go into the potty.Needless to say I had to take him into see the pediatrician I thought something was seriously wrong with him when he calasped in pain and tears at the store. If you are sure you want to continue to potty train your son then do it and be consistant I had to with mine,he was under 3 and then fully potty trained at 3 now going on 5 yrs old only had an accident or 2 in the past 2 yrs.Reward system is nice it shows them gratitude and acheievment at a young age.If he poops I gave my son a sucker to say JOB WELL DONE it won't last long I thought it would be never ending a sucker after ever poop but after a good month or 2 he was fine.Good Luck and if he slacks off now than later it'll be fine.Just a lil encouragement from his mama.It is frustrating.

I strongly recommend the book "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" by Nathan Azrin. Run, don't walk, to your nearest bookstore and pick it up! I'm a preschool teacher to a class of 16 two-year olds and I tell all of my parents to get it when they start toilet training.

Other than that - take heart! A lot of kids experience some backsliding after a significant amount of success on the potty. More than likely he has gotten tired of the "going potty game" and he's trying to test you to see if it's an option or a requirement! :) LOL Hang in there!

He really may not be ready. Boys tend to take longer than girls. Purchase some pull ups and start from the beginning. If he still isn't going on the potty then wait a while and try later. Good luck and God Bless.

His falling accident may have been more stressful for him than you realized and now he's lost some bladder control. He could also have a urinary infection. You might want to have that checked.

Hi H.,
My Daughter just got potty trained a few months ago and she will be four at the end of the month. I didn't think I would ever get her potty trained. She would go all day at pre-school and then not at home for me. Does your son wear pull-ups, or the like? The thing that finally got my daughter potty trained was a suggestion from the director at the pre-school to just over the weekend tell her no more pull-ups she's a big girl and knows who to use the potty and we are not using or buying any more pull-ups. She said to make sure and let them know which weekend I picked and remind them on Monday so they could watch to make sure she used the bathroom, and there were a few accidents, but really I was shocked at how well it worked. Some kids will just wear the pull-ups forever if you let them, because it pulls the wetness away they are never uncomfortable. The main thing is do not go back to pull-ups once you have stopped. Good luck hope this helps!

Good Morning H., Hey Tying him down sounds great ;)

A lot of kids go through this, since he is the only boy he is pretty well normal in his development. Girls are in my mind pretty easy, they sit for both pp & poopin. Boys have to learn to sit and stand. WOW where will it all end?
Since he did it before start taking him every hour or so even if he says "No Not today"! :)

Some times with any change of routine will cause some kid-os to change what they normally do also. With him hurting his Hinny and going Jaybirding was to him fun. Keep taking him and he will get back to it eventually.

Give him a mini hershey or crackle bar for Poopin in potty. Works for us. High 5's for pp in potty worked for us too ;)

Best of everything H., He will get there again.
Then the rest of the fun begins ;)
