My 2month old son was born with jejunal atresia and was spitting up green bile which he had to go through surgery. The first surgery he recovered well no spit up and was eatting pretty good so when he was discharged he was home for a week and i noticed that after his feedings and being burped a mouthful of bright yellow spit up came out so i asked my doctor if that was okay but she wasn't too sure on top of that she was very concerned why he didn't gain weight over the week he was home so she called the ped surgeon who worked on my son and i ended up having to readmit my son back into the NICU and when he got readmitted they put a tube down his throat into his time and hooked it up to a wall suction and spit up was no longer bright yellow it was bile (green). i then found out my son had a partial obstruction "narrowing" and so he went back into the O.R. to explore after 1 week observation come to find out that the doctor told me that he had to fix the same intestine but in a different area due to no blood circulation. Well now he is home and had no spit up in the NICU well maybe a few after feedings but the color would be white (my breastmilk) or brown from the formula. He came home Last Wednesday and he did really well with his feedings was pooing and peeing alot umm slowly gaining his weight but nurses told me that his weight would probably fluctuate as long as he didn't lose weight drastically. Thursday he did well with all his feedings but after one feeding and being burped he had yellow spit up and it was about a mouthful and that happened only once that day and then it happened again friday and it was only once again and then today (Saturday) he did well at home but then when we went to the store he was in his car seat in the shopping cart and a small amount of yellow came out. and that was once as well for that day But other than that He is eatting very well and pooing/peeing very well to. Sometimes after his feedings he'll have a spit up but majority of the time it would be white color of milk. (but he barely spits up) So can someone tell me is it that he is still recovering from his surgery and that the intestine is taking its time to heal cause the last time i readmitted my son the ped surgeon told me that. Sorry for the long story and question but i am a paranoid mother who is very scared and does not want history to repeat itself.

What can I do next?

Poor little guy!! :( I don't know about the yellow coloring, but spit up is very normal for babies. Some spit up more than others and it sounds like your baby doesn't spit up very much at all. Wish my 3 month old spit up as little as yours...I'd have less laundry to do!! LOL! Congrats on the baby and I hope he stays healthy and happy!

I doubt that any of us can reassure you that this is normal. Please call your baby's doctor and ask. Always ask your baby's doctor about anything related to his surgery. Only the doctor will know about the details of your baby's condition and the surgery and what is normal for your baby.

I can tell you that it's likely to be a problem because thus far yellow spit up has been a symptom of an unhealthy condition. Call the doctor.

As a mom of a child with chronic health problems let me reassure you that you will always worry a little bit more about what is normal and what is not for your son. I can also tell you that the doctor's would much rather you call too much with your concerns than wait because you don't want them to think you're paranoid. We call the doctor regardless of the time of day or night when we have concerns about our daughter and sometimes it has been no biig deal and others we are rushing her to the hospital.

I would say that it sounds like your little one is on the road to recovery but it would not hurt to call the Doctor/Nurse and double check. I wish you moments of peace and tranquility as your little one slowly recovers and may this be his last surgery. My son has been in and out of the hospital way to many times for my comfort so I do understand the paranoia and being scared speechless. Just know that doctors these days are the best ever and ever finding better ways to do their job. I wish you and yours health and Happiness, Cheers.

If you're concerned...call your doctor and insist they check him again. Don't worry about being a paranoid mother. It's better safe than sorry. At this point since you discovered something was amiss the last time....I'd be having them double, triple, quadruple check everytime I had a small doubt about his spit up. Hopefully it is normal and it's just his intestines are still on the mend. But I am sure no one hear can guarantee it.

I will say though that it is normal for babies to spit up...even some a lot. It does sound like he's doing well with gaining weight and his bowel movements and everything. so that's great. But if ever in doubt----I'd make them check it back out.

Good luck!!! Congratulations on your new baby. I hope he is healing well and that this is the last of the surgeries.
