Hi P., try gargling with some tea tree oil diluted in water. I use Just products and they are fabulous!!! When I have gotten a sore throat I've tried it and it works wonderfully (plus it has a lot of other uses as well) Hope you feel better soon!

Throat sprays are fine. Also good, old fashioned cough drops. For other relief, try chicken soup and herbal teas (that don't include black or green teas and camomile which are not good while pregnant). Feel better.

I drank hot lemonade. I also crushed an old fashioned aspirin and mixed in the lemonade when it got really bad. It relieved the pain tremendously.

I don't use anything pharma/chemical at all. I use herbs from the locally owned health food store (never GNC, they are useless) or Whole Foods. These people are great to ask advice from and have Whole Foods has lots of literature. My favorite books are by BALCH and BALCH. One is an MD and the other I think a certified nutritionist. The books are big (the size of copy paper). 'Rx for Nutritional Healing' and Rx for Dietary Wellness'. They are written for laymen and not professionals. You can either look up the herb or supplement and read all about it or you can look up you problem and see what supplements will help. I think thats cool. Its easy to understand and more user friendly than it looks. The size in intimidating. Anyway, I use: Echinacea(mucous cell support) the same way someone might use a decongestant, Golden Seal(immune system support), Astralagus(deep immune support-only when sick), and Valerian Root(tension reliever/muscle relaxer/sleep aid). These also come in liquid drops that my kids use. My children do not take OTC or prescription drugs. They have never had an ear infection (the oldest one gets swimmer's ear but that goes away in one day with alcohol). They have never taken an antibiotic. They are 8 and 11. We manage everything with supplements(including vitamins and minerals)and honey.
Good Luck
God Bless
D.

My family and I have always used warm lime juice with honey. We make 1/2 cup of the mixture and we drink it through out the day. But warm it up every time. Hope it works.

Check with your doc first, but most Tylenol products are OK. Including Tylenol Cold.

I had a sore throat during my last pregnancy. I had a great family doctor who said DO NOT use throat sprays, they have ingredients not recommended during pregnancy. You might just ask a doctor you trust to be sure.

Gargle with a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of warm water. This was a doctor recommendation when I had a sore throat that was caused by drainage. I'd also recommend a netti pot which helps you run warm salt water through your nasal cavaties and stops the drainage altogether.

Good Luck!

I had the same problem when I was preggers. My doc said it was ok to take a robitussin or something simular. Call your doctor and find out. I personally wouldnt use anything with alcohol in it or sugar free anything. I dont think I used anything for very long. Peppermints seem to be cooling and soothing. But arent good for when you are trying to breast feed...I've been told. Also Ricoolia ( however its spelled) is a all natural cough suppressent or perhaps it was an herbal one. Try the local natural store and see if they have anything good. Also a cold milkshake or icy really was nice and seemed to numb the pain! Its super scary taking any meds while your preganant. Congrats on the baby. If it gets worse go see the doctor. You dont want to get fever or anything while perggers either! God bless your little one. I noticed some mommas put asprin be very careful I was told asprin was a no no so tylnol was ok because it contained no asprin.

Hi P.,
I had my miracle son in March of this year. I already had allergies before I got pregnant, but they got worse and I was gagging on phlem (tmi, I know) every morning, sometimes in the afternoon too. My OBGYN told me that Sudafed and Benadryl were safe to take. I only took them when I was desperate and I also got a humidifier. I got the cold mist humidifier and that has been moved to the babies room. I have a warm mist humidifier that helps me. You might try the humidifier before taking any medication. Also, you can rub some of that mentholatum ointment on your chest and that may help. Good luck and congrats!

Well, its either... Allergies (tis cedar season!), a viral cold, or strep throat. You can take a little tylonal for the pain if its from allergies or a virus. However, I would not want to have strep throat if I was pregnant (although the internet says strep throat itself will not harm the baby but elevated fever/temperatures can) So, if it is a sever sore throat, plus if you feel a touch feverish or chilly, you might want to go in and get a throat culture just to be safe. I don't know if your OB does throat cultures; however if you go to your regular Dr (and it turns out positive) tell you OB because there are certain antibiotics to avoid and others that are safe.

Make sure you stay hydrated, which can be compromised if you don't feel like swallowing.

Here's a link that discusses dosages for tylonal while preggers: http://www.amazingpregnancy.com/pregnancy-articles/8.html

I hope you feel better!

I used warm honey. It soothes the throat and coats just as good if not better than medicine with none of the side effects. Good luck.

One thing that I grew up using that always seems to work is lemonade with honey. You warm up the lemonade and just add the honey. It's basically a hot toddy, minus the alcohol.

Good luck!

Hi there! I am 25 weeks today! :) Anyways...with ragweed season here...I too woke up this weekend with a sore throat. No fever...so I know it is merely allergies. :( I went to the OB for my regular check-up yesterday...and he said that you can use cough drops and the chloreseptic spray safely. I don't really care for the spray...but if you have used it before and it works for you...he said it was safe. I just keep a stash of hard candy to suck on at my desk...and a HUGE cup of water. They seem to be helping. Good luck!

Try vicks throat spray worked for me longer thatn cough drops. May want to check if it is allegies or strip throat before it gets worse. You will know the difference though because strips is painful and allergies is bothering and discomfort. Good luck. If it is allergies a allergy generic pill of walgreens works just as good as clariton.

The troat sparys are not safe... Tylenol is safe to take while you are pregnant to help with the pain. Keep gargling with warm water and salt this helps loosen the depris (mucus, etc.) that gets trapped in your throat pockets and eventually you'll get some relief. Walmart has a personal vaporizor by Vicks and basically you place your head over the steam that you breate this helped me during my prenancy. Or, let the hot water run from the shower of a small bathroom and breate the steam that way. You can also use a Saline spray for your nose to clean out your nasal passages. You can also lay down and let the Saline drip down your throat. Warm honey with Lime may help too... just spoon a little at a time and let it run down your throat. Iced Popcicles will help reduce the swelling! Hope all of this advice will help you.

I know it's the worst feeling ever. I've been there and I feel your pain.

Congratulations and Best Wishes.

I suffer from cedar fever horribly in the spring, and I was pregnant with both of my kids during that time. Sore throat was an understatement! I would take Tylenol to help with the pain, and drink decaf hot tea, and even decaf coffee. Anything warm to soothe my throat. Good luck.

You can take most cough drops safely. I had a little season of sore throat stuff when I was pregnant and that is what I did. Hang in there and feel better :)
