Throat is usually sore because the nose/sinuses are dripping down it.
Use a neti pot often and rise nose with warm saline solution.
Gargle with salt water.
If throat is stinging, if you have no numbing throat spray, drink some water first, then take a pinch of salt, look straight up, open your mouth and sprinkle the salt right on the back of your throat. Then try to leave it there long as you can. I was surprised but it really works for me.
I use a wide head band to hold one of those 8 hr air activated heat patches right up against my throat over night.
I like Vicks vapor rub on my throat, too. (Vicks on the feet never worked for me or my son.)
Hot tea with lemon and honey (if for an adult, you can add a teaspoon of brandy)(I like Mandarin Orange tea and Apricot or Apple brandy).
Some people swear by mashing 2 cloves of garlic, mix with lemon juice, stir into hot water, strain out the garlic, then drink it down.
