Hi there! My son, now 6, snored ever since he was a baby. At first, we thought it was cute, because it was so soft...and we had never heard another newborn snore! Well, it kept up into toddlerhood, and it kept getting progressively louder. Eventually, it turned into 'sawing logs' and was no longer cute. I had asked his pediatrician about it, because he also got ear infections frequently, but she didn't seem too concerned. I thought perhaps the two issues were related. She said some people are just born snorers. Made sense at the time. Well, when he turned 4 1/2, i was driving one day, and heard him snoring in the backseat. I turned around to look, and was surprised to see him wide awake...sitting in his booster seat, snoring! At that point, i took him to a specialist, an ENT. (Ear, nose & throat doctor). He did an evaluation and found that his tonsils and adenoids were so enlarged, that they were restricting his breathing! His adenoids had become so big, they completely blocked his nasal passages. His tonsils were to the point where they were touching each other, almost blocking off his throat. I felt so terrible! Guilty. My son couldn't breathe. I did notice at night, as he slept, his chest heaved up & down very heavily. I realized it was because he was struggling so hard to breathe. He had an adenoid-tonsillectomy, it was an outpatient procedure that took about a half an hour. A few hours after surgery, we were home. I had a brand new boy! No more snoring. He still gets ear infections now, at age 6, but not as frequent. Boys are more prone to them. I have 3 girls as well, and never had to deal with ear infections with them. I suggest you get your little man in to see an ENT. A simple evaluation could be all it takes to help him breathe better! And you don't wnat to let it get to the point where he is snoring while wide awake! Good luck!
