I'm 21 weeks pregnant and for the last few weeks I have felt my little boy kick up a storm. The last 2 days I haven't felt much of anything. A few times that I drank ice water or OJ and laid on my side, I did feel a few kicks. But before it was all day and really strong. I called the Dr. and she said that I shouldn't be worried at all and that I won't feel kicks everyday, but that I can come in to hear the heart beat if it will make me feel better (which I am going to do). But I don't know, i'm really nervous about it. Have any of you been through this? was everything ok? They can't do a NST till I am 28 weeks. The Dr. almost laughed when I called so concerned and maybe I am just being paranoid. What do you think?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. I went to the Dr and heard his heartbeat going as strong as ever. Since then, he's back to normal and kicking pretty regularly. I told my husband yesterday that I had never been so happy to be kicked in the ribs! Thanks for the support.

You are still early enough...Those movements will keep getting stronger and stronger..There were times my babies were more quiet than usual and I would start to feel panicky when I didn't feel them move......I drink a bit of caffeine or push around on the abdomen a bit and if I felt some movement I'd breathe a sigh of relief...Hang in there.

My dd very rarely moved throughout my whole pregnancy and I didn't start to feel her move till I was in my 6-7th month but even then not much movement. I had to jump around a lot for every scan because she was always curled up into a little ball!! :-) If this is your 1st, I know they say you get movement earlier on with a 2nd or 3rd child not the 1st. Just get it checked to put your mind at rest. The doc used to tell me that the ones that hardly moved in the womb more than made up for it once they got out!! And he was sooo right. lol

Sometimes the baby just changes position so that he's kicking toward an area where you can't feel it as much. Sometimes they just have quiet days. When I was pregnant with my twins, I hardly ever felt one of the babies move, but whenever my doctor checked on her she was just fine! It was just her position. If you have concerns though, you should definitely have your doctor check. It's her job to make sure that you and the baby are OK, and it's good she said you can come in to hear the heartbeat. It concerns me that you felt she was almost laughing at you though- you should never feel that your doc is judging you or belittling your concerns.

The other thing I did during my pregnancies that really helped me was I rented a Babybeat monitor so that I could hear the heartbeats whenever I wanted. It's not too expensive, easy to use, and gave me soooo much peace of mind!

I have 5 kids and they were all active in utero except one of mine. I went to the doctor twice just to check and make sure she was okay. She'd be active one day and passive for two days. It freaked me out. Out of the 5, she's been my easiest, calmest child. Very passive and layed back personality. I understand your worry and I wouldn't feel bad for calling the doctor. That's exactly what you're suppose to do. Good luck!

It never hurts to have a listen to the heartbeat. I went through the same thing. They made me eat and drink and gave my son a little zap that was vibrations (not electric shock). He was just happily snoozing away inside me.

Plus as the weeks progress and they start to grow more, their room is more limited so they move less but stronger. He's starting to run out of room for all the back flips and twisty turny dives he's been doing inside you.

My guess is he's fine and this is normal. But go in and listen to that heartbeat and you'll feel better :)

My daughter did the same thing. She was always an active mover (still is 2 and half years later), then I noticed over a couple days she hardly moved at all. On the third day I went to lunch and realized I hadn't felt her move at all. So I flipped and they had me come in to monitor her. I ended up being there for nearly four hours because they couldn't get her to move to their satisfaction. In the end they deemed me ok, and I was sent home. The next day she took her revenge and kicked all day long! Go in, listen to the heartbeat and get some peace of mind.

He is probably starting to run out of room, which makes the kicks not feel as strong. If you are feeling movement when drinking water and OJ, Im sure he is fine.
I dont blame you though for just going in to hear the heartbeat. Go with your gut and get it checked out. Hopefully that will set your mind at ease.

At 21 weeks you won't feel the kicks consistently....I am 31 weeks now with baby #3. They don't even suggest you start kick counts till around the 3rd trimester. I would try not to worry -- especially if your doc is kind enough to let you come in and hear the heartbeat on the doppler. Relax! Soon the baby will be kicking up your insides so much that it will hurt :)

If you can feel him move when you lay down, drink cool water or juice, then most likely he's fine.

My second baby did this once in a while. Over all she was a dancer in the womb. Constantly moving throughout the day and night, but once in a while her movement would be slowed dramatically. I would have to lay down and really focus to feel her. Then she would pickup her normal pace in a day or so.

Try not to worry too much, he's probably taking a day off and will get back to his old ways in no time. Or... another possibility is that he has turned around with his back facing your bellybutton. If his kicks and pushes are towards your back you may not be able to feel him as much. My daughter also did this.

The last advice I can give you is this.... If you are truely worried about his lack of movment call the doctor.

Best of luck, and congrats on the little one!!!

My daughter was a very avtice mover. But at around 21 weeks, she decided she didn't want to one day. I drank something, I moved around. Nothing would get her going. I went to have it checked. They hooked me up to a fetal monitor. 20 minutes later the nurse said she was moving like crazy. I could not feel her. She just was not kicking me. Maybe she was swimming, who knows.

Now if I could just get her to sit still for more than a few minutes! She is almost 3 and she is EVERYWHERE.

I think when their feet are backwards (towards your back, not belly) you cant feel it as much, or maybe at all. Might be kicking just as much but not noticeable to you.

Drink an entire glass of orange juice or sweet tea, lay on your lefthand side for 30 minutes. If baby doesn't bump, CALL YOUR DOC!!

My son used to scare me like that when I was pregnant with him... but he was sleeping when I was awake, and vice versa. We had MANY a stress test/movement test done on him... he was just a stinker before he even came out ;)

baby may be getting bigger and has less space to move around in so he/she might not be moving much....

My Dr NEVER laughed at me when I called with concerns. They NEVER hesitated to let me come in and hear the heart beat. EVER.

Every pregnancy is different. Every W. is different. Every baby is different.

Do NOT stress - stress is sooo not good. Take a deep breath. Go to your Drs office and hear the heart beat and all will be good!

I had a difficult time feeling him kick nearly the whole pregnancy, my dr said it was because I was overweight ... and even 30lbs overweight before coneception can hinder that according to my doctor. I could see him move about once a or twice a week then around 30 weeks it stopped. So, from my experience start a journal NOW of the baby movement so you can bring that with you for your concerns with your doc they may monitor you like they did me or baby may be doing JUST fine. Good Luck!

It gets tighter in there as baby grows, and keep in mind that they flip around in there a lot.
He may be positioned towards your spine right now, which means he's kicking your insides and you wouldn't feel it.
I had an anterior placenta with my daughter, and rarely felt her kick before 30 weeks or so.

You can rent a fetal heart rate monitor just like the use at the doctor's office.
www.babybeats.com. I used this with my first after I almost lost him.
Then you can hear the heartbeat and be reassured anytime you like.

This may be too paranoid but I would ask the Dr. to have a quick ultrasound done. I had a wonderful Dr. that would encourage me if I was ever worried to come in and they would check the baby to make sure she was okay.
