E.M.
gelatin is made from the bone marrow of animals like cows. Bone marrow has much the same composition as hair and nails so yes it has a high likelihood of helping.
My first question is in regards to drinking water... a lot of "research" maintains that drinking a lot of water helps clear up skin, aids in weight loss etc. but then some drs say that it doesn't. Does anyone have personal experience with benefitting from drinking more water? Second question, is that my neighbor (who is an older lady) said that drinking disolved knox geletain will aid in hair growth... is this one of those urban myth things or has anyone ever tried it? I am battling hair loss due to being anemic and although I am also on a regimen to help the anemia I would like to help my hair to regrow. I am already taking hair vitamins but not sure if they are helping. Thanks!

Sorry, but gelatin for hair and nails is a myth. Try biotin, it might help a little.
As for the water, I'm chronically dehydrated (sweat a lot), so I wouldn't know.
The answer to both questions is that there is no scientific evidence that doing either will help anything, but they won't hurt you either.
drinking MORE water has definitely helped my skin and if I don't drink enough, i really feel bloated. youre supposed to find your weight in kg's and drink that amoung each day.
Drinking water helps with so many things. When you are drinking the water also is important. Having room temperature water first thing in the morning when you first get up helps get your body started and helps to flush the toxins from your system that have built up overnight. Drinking hot water before or during a meal helps the digestion and leaves less room for the food to be consumed.
Taking vitamins for hair growth usually will take about 30 days before you begin to see results. Hair will grow with the proper nourishment of the body. Watch your stress levels too. Proper hair care will be important as well. You should see a licensed beautician to learn how to properly care for your hair type. A dermatologist may also be helpful to you with hair growth.
My son's skin had always had problems. He left for Air Force basic training where they required them to drink LOTS of water. They also could not eat sweets or drink sodas. When we finally saw him at the end of the 8.5 weeks his skin looked better than it ever had.
Not sure if it was the water, the cutting down on sugar intake or both....BUT diet absolutely makes a difference.
Your body is mostly water... of course it's good for you.
I DO drink 8 glasses of water and my skin isn't 100% clear and however I am not over weight either.
As far as the knox, yes that is true, that is why when you take prenatal vitamins your hair and nails get stronger.
I don't know about the water or the gelatin, but I did take Biotin when I was tyring to grow my hair back out after chemo. Honestly, I'm not sure if it was working or not since I have no idea how long it would have taken to come in without it, but like another poster said, it can't hurt! Just thought I would give you another option. Hope it helps.
As to the gelatin thing, I cannot comment. But drinking water... I went on the Atkins diet 10 years ago and lost 15 pounds. OK there is controversy about it and I stopped doing it because I didn't think it was healthy. But the one thing that I kept doing was drinking water all day. I only drink coffee in the morning and water all day. I just look at other beverages and I think about all of the sugar in them and (for soft drinks) all of the random chemicals in them and I am really revolted by it! I am generally healthy, but I have concentrated on putting healthy things into my body, like organic foods. I don't think there is a one-item fix for healthy, but eating lots of veggies and trying to eliminate processed foods is a good start. Good luck on your quest for better health!
I just wanted to recommend you start cooking in an iron skillet to help with your anemia and eat calves liver if you eat meat. Stores like Sprouts carry a good quality liver.
Otherwise, the drinking 8 glasses of water theory was debunked by a Nephrologist (kidney doctor) and ditto all the other advice about American gelatin being from cow marrow, therefore in theory it should help, won't hurt. I have also heard good things about Biotin and peanut butter for hair growth.
You should drink 8 8oz glasses of water per day, minimum. It's very good for you. The only time I break out is when I haven't had enough water. I love water with a slice of cucumber in it or a slice of lemon. Yum
Ive been wondering how many people actually drink the recommended 8 glasses, I can never do more than 4-5 and no, my skin isnt exactly clear & shining & my weight isnt budging these days.
I have heard, but not tried, of the gelatin making hair grow in thicker.
I take a biotin supplement to help with my nails and hair.
Keep drinking water.
Ok, on the first question ... I love how my body feels when I drink water during the day ... my skin needs less lotion, my body feels lighter than drinking tea, soda, milk, coffee all day. So I drink it because it makes me feel better.
Second question, not sure about the solution she came up with but my mom lost a lot of hair after a procedure and started using Nioxin shampoo/conditioner that was reccomended -- apparently cancer patients use it afer hair loss. She loves the results and has used it for years. She gets it at Ulta.
your body needs water and not providing enough will affect things like your skin. Also if you do not replenish the water your body needs you will cling on and "retain" water. your body mass will determine how much your body hangs onto. Water will also help flush toxins and waste from your body as well. However if you eat a lot of things that are bad for you your body will have to work too hard to flush everything out and no amount of water will be enough.
I was gonna say that the gelatin thing probably does work- isn't gelatin a protein? What the hell do I know?! But that was my first though. Google it.
As far as water, I think that how much you need depends a lot on your eating habits, weight, lifestyle, etc. I tend to drink quite a bit. When I don't drink enough I start to get muscle cramps (I have chronicallly low potassium, so it's that much more important that I don't get dehydrated!). Your skin is the first thing to show it when you don't have enough water, so yes, your skin, hair, and nails definitely show it when you're not hydrated enough.
Divide your weight (in kg) by 8 and the answer is how many glasses of water you should drink a day.
e.g 60kg /8 = 7.5 glasses of water
And I to have heard that Knox is good for hair and nails. I don't think it's a myth.
Didn't the 8 glasses of water per day come about after soldiers in war were analyzed? That is why 5 is plenty for me. Plus, I don't have to get up 3 times at night, losing sleep.
