I used to work in a salon and I swear by the Nailtique product line. They have a clear polish to help strengthen the nails and it works GREAT! They used to only carry it at salons but I saw it in CVS yesterday.... go get some!
My nails are very "weak" They break easy and tear. I have tried that "Sally Nail Growth" and that didn't work at all. Any other suggestions?
Thank you all so much for your helpful advice. I am taking more calcium intake and going to be using some of your tips. Thank you sooo much!!

I recently started using a product called "biosil". I found it very cheaply at iherb.com. It has made my nails much stronger and my hair is thicker, too! I highly recommend it.
It has always worked for me ( why i don't eat it anymore - dangerous) J-E-L-L-O. The gelatin kind. I think i have the gene pool for strong nails anyway, but you never know!
Try rubbing lotion into your cuticles everyday. Any kind of lotion will work, massage it in completely and then watch your nails grow long and strong. I had really weak nails also and when I started to do this I could not believe the difference. It's the easiest cheapest solution and it really worked for me.
Remember to give it a few weeks for best results.
Good Luck,
K.
Hi D.,
Here are a few things that have helped my nails get much stronger (and they used to be terrible). Taking the vitamin supplement biotin is good for hair and nails - I take around 1,000 mg a day in addition to the other vitamins I take. I still take my prenatal vitamins and will continue to do that even after my daughter weans (there's no reason to stop). I don't think it matters what brand of prenatals you use - I have been taking the Long's brand and they seem to work fine. I also take flax oil capsules (3 a day) which is good for heart health and skin, and I wonder if that also helps my nails not be brittle like they used to be.
Also, if you're not doing this already - drink LOTS OF WATER every day (1 oz per lb of body weight is optimal, but 64 oz. a day is the minimum for health). Without sufficient water our body systems are all affected adversely including skin and our nails are part of that skin system. Try to eliminate as many processed foods as you can and eat fresh whole foods as much as possible (fruits and vegetables). I also eat more fish than I used to and I know the omega 3 oils are good for my health.
You might try leaving off any nail enamels and removers for awhile except for maybe a nail strengthener. Polish removers can be very drying. If you want shine on your nails without polishes, a great tool to use if you can find it is the Texas 2-Step buffer...it is shaped like a nail file (long and thin, no handle or anything) and is red on one side and white on the other. It makes my nails super shiny when I use it instead of polish (it's for bare nails).
Oh yeah, one more thing, I think using nail oil has really helped my nails and cuticles, and I still use it - I like Solar Oil, but there are other brands available too.
Hope this helps - I know it's frustrating to have nails always splitting and breaking. One more thing - if you keep some brush on nail glue handy (I use the Big Bondini brand) if you have a nail start to break or split, you can use a tiny amount to repair it rather than losing the whole nail.
GOOD LUCK!!

D.,
Hi! I take vitamins from a company called Melaleuca. My nails are super strong and grow like wild fire.. I always jokingly complian they grow to fast and I can't ever dail the numbers on my phone..... My hair too grows super healthy and strong because of them.
I would love to share more if you are interested.

I agree, more calcium. Although, I would not recommend a One-a-day vitamin. They are compressed so hard the body has a hard time breaking them down and absorbing the nutrients. I take a multi vitamin from Costco that has a couple different pills in one packet. That and the extra calcium works for me. Without that my nails are very weak also.
Hope that helps,
S.
Increase your calcium intake... most adults do not get enough. A women's one a day would be good for you, if you don't all ready take a vitamin...( it doesn't have to be any particular brand)
also paint your nails with clear polish to give them an extra layer
hope this helps
I would try Hair,Skin,Nails. It's a vitamin that you can get at
Walmart for about 6 dollars. You take the vitamins 3 times a day with meals. It works really well.
Hello D. i have found something that works great its called Nail Tech you can get it at Ulta there are 2 steps to it.. i love it i have found that my nails are stronger and they are growing out alot better. hope this helps.
I would suggest getting your calcium naturally from other sources besides dairy. I dont know if you knew this, but milk, especially whole milk, robs your system of calcium. acutally, it gets taken right out of your bones, and then screened thru your kidneys, which causes calcium build-up and soon after that, kidney stones. the kidneys use calcium as an "insulator" around un-used protein to send it out thru the urinary system. so if you go to the doctor and they find you have a lot of protein in your urine, you can be sure that there is alot of calcium that was just robbed from your body in there too.
i used to eat and drink dairy products, but now i try to stay away from them. I have silk soymilk with my cereal, and citrus fruits and whole grain products have alot of calcium in them. fresh spinach leaves do too.
I hope this information helped you and maybe you can make some lifestyle changes that will better both your health and your nails in the long run.
God Bless!
try using a nail cream that u rub into nails & underneath nails. Go to Sally's & find a calcium serum (it's like a clear polish) u apply the serum like once a day. U can also take calcium supplements.
Well, may I suggest going to a health food store, local or whole foods. Theres a product called hair, skin, and nails, they're pills and they work wonders. How's your calcium intake? I know that when I was shorting myself of it my nails got weak. You can ask when you're at the store what they suggest as well.

Hi D.,
I would definately say to increase your calcium intake from natural sources as well as maybe a calcium and magnesium supplement. You will notice your nails getting much stronger and you will probably even feel better. Hope this helps.
try nailtiques. its only available at beauty supply stores and there are different formulas that do different things, so you need to make sure you get the right one. the box will tell you what each one is for. i used this when i stopped wearing acrylics and my nails were a mess. it really works, just follow the instructions and keep using it until your nails are better, then stop. good luck!
Nailtiques works like magic.
Hi D.,
My name is C., I am an Esthetician and I do BeautiControl In-Home Spa Parties. I have a product called Show of Hands Cuticle Salve. My friend Melissa swares by it she was a nail bitter and her nails were weak and she said she puts it on every night before bed and she can totally tell the difference. If you would like to try it my website is www.beautipage.com/cristib or my email is ____@____.com it cost $12.50 and if you don't get the results you were hoping for you can call me ###-###-#### or email me and I will refund your money.
Take care,
C.
prenatal vitamins. i take them with baby or not.
You'll need to start taking a daily multivitamin to really strengthen your nails. Nothing that you put on your nails will ever work as well as what you put in you body!
Eat jello - -- or soak your hands in Gelatin
Hi D., I know it has been a long time since you requested information and I hope the nails are long and strong now. I agree that vitamins do help. Also, when you are using nail polishes and cuticle removers, you might want to check www.findgreenhere.com. Go to the safe cosmetics page and use link at bottom of page to check that the products you are using have a healthy rating. You can put in actual brand names and we now check all of our personal products on the database to be sure that they do not contain harmful toxins and chemicals. Thanks and good luck! :o)
Sally's has a produce called "Hard as Nails" or something like that. It's a clear polish, and it helped me when I was trying to grow my nails.
I provide a great ORGANIC supplement for hair and nails. I would love to serve a mom from my business. Let me know if you're interested. P.S. My daughter's name is Grace, too!
gelatin pills work great - you can buy them at a health food store. It takes a while, since it starts at the base of the nail, so you have to wait for your nail to grow from base to tip to see the effect, but it works great.
my aunt swears by gellatin. Eating gellatin and taking gellatin pills.
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails is a good one! Of course, this is just a product and it won't actually help your natural nails grow stronger, but it will give them a nice coat so they won't tear or split. But you have to put a new coat on I would say once or twice a week or more if it peels off at all.
I've always had weak nails. Sally Hansen Nail Growth didn't work for me. I noticed with my experience is the prenatal vitamins. Makes my nails strong.
Hey we live locally in santa clarita valley. I have 3 girls 5 1/2 3 1/2 and 19 months if you wanted to get together at the park that would be great just email me
S.
try mixing knox brand powdered geletin into juice and drink it everyday... it works great..
This may sound strange, but I've found that when I drink milk, my nails grow faster and stronger, and the same for my hair. Go figure ? !
I take the over the counter prenatal pills. After I stopped breast feeding I didnt want to switch to a multi vitamin my stomach didnt like them to too much, I stayed with what worked. No need for acrylic's anymore....
OH and I decided that I would win the lotto and i'm hiring somebody to just wash baby bottle and clothes....hey i'm planning ahead for the next kid..lol.... good luck
