1St Period After Stopping Nursing and Have an IUD?

This is my first period after I stopped nursing my 7 and a half month twins a couple weeks ago. I had an IUD put in at 8 weeks postpartum and the doctor said that if I had increase bleeding or bad cramps It may have fallen out so to watch for that. I haven't had much spotting and very mild cramps each month after the first period after it was placed. It seems perfectly logical to me that since I have been nursing and now stopped that this first period could be a bit worse. I have had spotting and bad cramps for a few days. Much more then I have had in about 5 months. Should I have my doc check it to be safe? I really don't want to have to go in and it's not like I am having a full on period by any means. Has anyone had any experience with this? I hope this post is making sense. Please tell me if it doesn't.

I agree with Jessica - just check it yourself. I do this regularly and have had only one really light period since I stopped nursing over 6 months ago.

You don't say whether or not you have hormones in your IUD. If there are hormones that would make for a light period. If you really do want to be pregnant again go get it checked.

I'm on my 3rd IUD, and each time I had one inserted the doc told me to check for the string each month after mensus. I'm kind of surprised your doc did not tell you this, you do not have to go in to have it checked, check yourself! You should be able to feel a tiny bit of the string at your cervical opening.

Pretty much the same advice as eveyone else: you can check it by pulling lightly on the string to make sure that it is still there. If something doesn't seem right, have your doctor check it and then tell you how to check it yourself at home.

I had a Mirena iud and the first couple of months had light periods that eventually stopped all toghether. I would still occasionally get mild mild cramping, but no real period.

If you have the mirena, it will either stop your period or shorten your period. For me it has stopped mine.

With the paragard my first few periods after I stopped nursing were very lite and the craps felt the same as before having baby.
