I can't believe my sweet boy is going to be one. We want to have a birthday party,
and our family is huge. The problem is our house is small. Is their a cheap
place that can hold about 50 people in the San fernando Valley?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much! So many wonderful ideas. We went with the beautiful park in Calabasas close to our home. We never expected a rec. room like this. Since it is mostly adults, we decided to go this route. But when his circle of friends expands, we have enough ideas for the next 5 years! Thanks again!!!

Balboa park off Balboa between Burbank and Victory is a great place to have a party. Lake, ducks, playgrounds, lots of green grass to roll around on, covered picnic tables w/bbqs. I take walks around the lake and always see parties with those blow up jumping things full of children. They also have icecream trucks and boat rides.
party on,
J.

We had our daughter's first birthday at a park in Valencia. It was great. The other kids (older) had a place to play, the parents hung out and were able to chat and whatever and it held the 60+ people who were invited. Good luck and have fun!

Jennifer,

My son turned one in April, and I had the same dilemna. I ended up renting a train car at TRAVEL TOWN in Griffith Park. There are several sizes, and I believe the largest holds 60 people. The total cost was $100. They ask for a deposit of $40, which you get back if you clean up after the party.

It's a great space, and the kids can not only play in the train, but they can take a train ride around the park, and go into the museum which is just outside the car.

It worked well for me - hope it works for you!

I used to work at a Pizzeria in college and occasionally we'd have birthday parties on Saturday or Sunday mornings (when its usually slow). The teenagers loved playing the video games and the owner didn't charge for using the dining room. You'd have to buy the pizza, soda and salads for your guests, but that would be it. It would really depend on how many kids were coming to the party and if you really need lots of play room for them.

Have fun!

Hi Jennifer! I am not sure what your budget is or what end of the Valley you are on...but here are a few places/suggestions:

The Playroom in Sherman Oaks
Creative Leap in Porter Ranch
My Gym (various locations)
Tiny Town in Granada Hills

and De Anza park in Calabasas has a room for rent pretty reasonably, as does the Tarzana Community Center (not sure this is the correct name)

If you need help with entertainment once you figure out a location, I can help you with that too!

Jennifer,
Your two responses have mentioned public parks - but if I calculate correctly, your son will turn one in August? Probably one of our hottest months of the year (although, doesn't it seem like it's getting hotter sooner, this year?) Anyway, I agree with them, but wanted to let you know that parks rent out their rec. rooms. They are very resonable - around $30-50 an hour. Many of them provide tables and chairs, as well. When our older son was five, we had his party at a public park in Agoura (we live in Sherman Oaks). It was air conditioned and clean and BIG! Studio City has a room, as does VNSO park (on Hazeltine). I think the park we had his party at was Tapia Park?
