T.,
I had a baptism and birthday for my son and it was beautiful. We had the baptism at our house in the am and just a few select people. Then he went for a nap and a few hours later had his birthday with 47 people! Most adults and a few kids. I wouldn't get the clown. My son was overstimulated just with the crowd here. I found that having some toys outside on the deck or in the garage kept the kids central and I was able to do some rounds after getting someone to keep the eye out. You will be busy. So recruit some helpers so that you won't ignore your guests. The time will go so fast you won't know what hit you. :) Good luck and have fun!

You could probably rent the cotton candy/popcorn machine from a party rental company such as Bargain Party or Bouncin Bins (which is a bounce house company in California). I think a clown might freak out the small children, but that is just what I've heard.

Keep in mind that 1st birthday's are always more about the parents than about the little one. And the birthday kid always gets overstimulated with all the people and all the attention. Plus you're going to have him baptized on the same day. It just sounds like a lot of commotion to deal with for the little guy. Kids are resilient, but sometimes, less is more. ;-) Good luck and happy planning!!

I make Baptismal Gowns out of the mom's wedding gown. I emborider the wedding date, and then each childs Baptismal date on the gown. This way you truely have a family heirloom.
And, I wouldn't do the clown--- too scary.
Let me know if you might be interested in a gown. I have references

I did the same thing but added "moving" to the mix. It was last year at this time when we moved out here. My Son was turning "one" and we wanted to make sure all the family saw him baptized and celebrated his birthday before we left Michigan. It was hard to schedule around his nap and he neede a bath right after he was intorduced to his cake! Enjoy the day and have fun. Your son will probably not remember it, but the rest of the family will!! The one thing we did was ordered a bunch of food and forgot to make sure it was stuff that he liked or could eat. DUH!! My nephew had his party yesterday and that was fun. There were quartered PB&Js for the kids and ham and cheese for the adults.
