16 Month Won't Go to Sleep Without Sippy Cup

Hi,
My daughter who was a wonderful sleeper started waking up multiple during the night at around 14 months. She would ask for milk and would take a few sips and then want to go back to sleep. So, we started putting her to bed with a sippy cup of water. But now it seems that she can't go to sleep without the water. Some nights she drinks it all and others drinks almost none of it. I'm just wondering if this is an ok habit or one we should try to wean her out of. Any advice?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your responses, I feel much better now! I always put water in it, no juice or milk so that's good. Thank you all for your advice! I still sleep with water by my bed too :)

Water is good. I had the same problem. Bottle was not an issue. But the sippy cup was. At a year and a half, I tranfered my son from crib to a toddlers bed. I then put the sippy cup on his nightstand. Did every well. He kept it on the nightstand. He is six now and still has water on his nightstand. He perpares it himself now!

Its perfectly fine, if its water. Let her.
Even adults like to keep a carafe or cup of water near their bedside. Its no big deal.
And besides, at least with a sippy cup, it won't leak, so you won't have to worry about water getting all over the place.

You do not have to "wean" her from water nor the sippy for bed or if keeping it in her bed.
Just make sure every night the water is fresh.
My kids, at their ages, like to have a cup of water too. Its okay.

All the best,
Susan

i drink water all night long :) and i have since i was a little girl. my mom always let us have water by the bed for as long as i can remember. as long as you never put juice or milk in it, i don't see any reason to not let her have it. just out of curiosity, does she sleep with her mouth open? she might have a dry mouth and throat, so when she wakes up the water makes her feel better. i'd say let her have it, as long as its only water. worry about it later when you need to potty train.

My little guy is 3-years old and we both have our nightly cup of water by our beds. No biggie.
