I don't know the laws here in TX regarding teens working.

However, I do know a lot of teens around here have worked at Cinemark Theatres. Market Street hires young teens to bag groceries and carry them to the car. They don't have carts in the parking lot and each person gets help to the car.

he can not legally work until age 15 doing anything except the kind of things you have mentioned, babysitting and yard work or other things for family members paid in cash.

Once he is 15 he can get a work permit from the school office. AMC Theaters hires 15 year olds, so do some grocery stores.

*disclaimer* I haven't been in a position to hire others for about 5 years now. So my info *might* be out of date... But I'm pretty sure it is still accurate, as I'm sure a change in child labor laws would have been big enough news that I would have heard about it...

Most places, 15 is the minimum age he can legally work, unless it is something like you already mentioned.... And even that is great,y restricted as far as the times and amount of hours he can work. (I know that in Idaho, 15 year olds could only work up to 20 hours a week max, and not after 10 pm.) The exception is for family-owned businesses, which has it's own set of guidelines.

So unless you have a family member with a business willing to hire him (also restricted) then he will have to go for the "typical" teenage jobs.

You need to research employment laws for underage minor children or child labor laws for your State. And Employers of children, have to follow the laws too.

Your son may not like or want, yard work, but you have to go according to the laws. And if he babysits, the parent who hires him may want him background checked etc. No one is going to just hire a teenager to watch their child unless they have references or experience or knows how to supervise and handle children.

Fieldhouse in Frisco hires 14 year olds to run the clocks at basketball games. If that is to far from you then you might check a sports organization closer.

Go with what he is good at. My brother built and sold skateboarding ramps when he was young, because that was what he was interested in.
