Hi there moms!

Just curious if any of you out there have found a way to get your toddler to stop gritting his/her teeth. My son just started doing this a few days ago and it drives me nuts! Not to mention, it's not to great on his teeth either.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses! I was pretty sure that it is just a phase that he is going through and he is getting a few more teeth. So I am glad to hear that it is normal:)

Oh it drove me nuts too! I talked to the dentist and he assured me this was totally normal to strengthen their jaw and that is why they have baby teeth. I found that my son did it to help cut his teeth that were starting to come through. Thankfully it only lasted a few weeks for me but if you are concerned about it talk to your dentist or a pediatric dentist.

My son did this for awhile and then stopped. I was told by my ped that it was normal.

Grinding teeth at that age is perfectly normal. Both my kids did that but they eventually stopped doing it after a few months.

I'm on board with all the other moms who've answered you - all 3 of mine did it too. The sound was not pleasant to my ears, but they grew out of it. It seems like they do it once they have the 2 bottom ones, and one of the top ones comes in. But they get used to the teeth and stop grinding.

My daughter did the same thing at about that age. I tried to distract her when she did it and it seemed to help. It didn't last long.

It's very normal and there's not much you can do about it. My son did it at naptime and bedtime. Most of them grow out of it.
