Should I be concerned that my nearly 10 month old daughter has no teeth and shows no sign of getting a tooth any time soon? My son had 4 teeth by 6 months old so this is new to me.
I wouldn't worry. I didn't get any teeth until I was 13 months and neither did my son. The dentist I spoke with said that it actually helps kids have fewer cavities if their teeth come in later, so I'd look at it as a positive! If she still doesn't have any teeth by 18 months, then I'd talk to her doctor but not before then. :D
I would not worry just yet. My first baby got his first tooth at 7 and a half months while my second got hers at 9+ months.
Probably not, but as with any concern, mention it to your pediatrician. My 3 kids got their first teeth between 5 & 7 months and my oldest, now 8, lost her first teeth at 6. My friend's son got his first teeth at 14 months old! He's 8 and in 2nd grade like my daughter and still has yet to lose a tooth.
Ask your parents (yours and your husband's) when you got your baby teeth. There is a hereditary element to it. My brother's girls (all 3 of them) didn't get teeth until they were one. Both of my kids had a mouthful by then. Either way can be completely normal. You might be surprised by what you find out about you and your husband's childhoods when you start asking this kind of question....
LOL your post made me smile! my first daughter got 4 teeth(two upper two lower) at 8 months, well with my second we had to wait until her first birthday to see her beautiful pearly whites. Yeap! she got her first two lower teeth at 12 months!
Don't worry is absolutely normal! and besides don't they look super cute when they smile and it's all gums!
You have no need to worry! My daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was a year old. I had asked her pediatrician when she didn't have any and they said some children don't get teeth as late as a year and a half.
I'm sure when she gets teeth they will come one right after the other like my daughter.
My daughter was 15 mos old and she has beautiful teeth at age 32. She gummed every thing even steak. Years ago the dentist said they would cut around the gum to break it but last I heard they quit doing that because there were problems and they are fine with getting them later. She however could not get braces as early as she wanted because they have to lose all the baby teeth first. God Bless G. W
I have 2 children who have done this. The first time round I seriously was considering taking my son in for x-rays to make sure he had teeth. It took my son forever he didn't have a mouth full until after he was 2. His last baby tooth came in the same week his younger sister got her first tooth, she was a month shy of 1. She is just shy of 4 and her 2 year old molars have just started to come in. She has been to the dentist for a cleaning and he was not concerned.
No worries! One of my favorite stories from my mother-in-law is this: When my husband was 1 year-old, my MIL took him to a dentist, concerned because he didn't have any teeth yet. The dentist gave him a quick look, then said to her, "Have you ever seen someone whose teeth never came in?" "No," she said. "Then don't worry about it." My husbands first tooth then came in when he was 13 mos. old.
I had this issue with my oldest. No teeth. Then all of the ones that she was due to get at 10 months she did - on the same day!!! I even had my friend with six kids look and there was nothing even coming up four hours earlier and then wham. It was hell - for both my daughter and me!
12.5 months... thats when my son got his first tooth. they all came in pretty quickly after that! until then he looked like a lil old man!
My oldest was late getting teeth and also late losing them. She was in 2nd grade and wondering why everyone else was getting the fun of the loose tooth and tooth fairy visits and not her!
My daughter had 4-5 teeth at six months and my almost 9 month old son has no teeth either so I found this post reassuring! Sounds like it's pretty common!
You shouldn't worry, my son didn't get his first tooth until he was 12 months and if your child has already started going to the dentist, they will also let you know that it is ok.
My 1 year old still doesn't have any teeth. According to my mother, I didn't get any teeth until I was almost 2. Getting teeth late supposedly means that you won't get as many cavities. This is true for me. I am 40 and have never had a cavity.
My son didn't show any signs of teeth until a week before his first birthday. Then they came in all at once and were perfectly healthy. My daughter had several by the time she was 9 mos. I think all kids are just different.
Definitely no worries. I called a pediatric dentists when my first was 14 months old and asked them if I should be concerned that my 14 month old had no teeth. They said don't worry. They promised they are there. Everyone develops at different speeds. Needless to say, she got her first tooth at 15 months. She also didn't loose her first tooth until midway through 2nd grade.
My son was 13 months when he finally got his first tooth. My husband and father were both late teethers as well. As for me, my parents don't remember when I got teeth.
My daughter was 13 months old before she got her first tooth. I was told that the teeth are usually stronger if they come in late. I don't know if this is a wives tale or not..........but my daughter is now 24 and has never had a cavity.
I would not worry at all. I didn't get my 1st tooth until after i was a year old and I turned out just fine.

No worries. At my daughter's first birthday party, she had ONE tooth.
