OUr son turned one and we took bottle away, weaned completely from me, and stopped formula. Moving to milks. We tried soymilk, rice milk, cows milk and he spits all out. Refuses. He was already using sippy cups for water and diluted juices, won't accept milk out of a sippy. Last night he cried for an hour in my arms, but not giving in to give bottle back. Any suggestions or stories on how your child transitioned to milks/sippy cups??

So What Happened?

So, he cried for an hour straight and refused every milk we gave. So we ended up putting a combo of formula and milk in a sippy cup and he took it. Then slowly decreased amount of formula to milke, now he drinks milk. We also did the cheerio idea and gave him a bowl and spoon with cereal and he loved feeding himself and after he ate the O's out, he was drinking the milk out of the bowl, so I think that helped him get used to the flavor. Thanks a lot!

Have you tried warming the milk? This worked with my littlest.

We had the same problem with both kids. What worked for us was giving them cereal (like cheerios) in a bowl with milk. They loved it in that form and would often consume nearly 1 c. of milk. After a couple of months, they learned to like the taste of milk from a cup and now drink lots of milk (cow's).

Hi Z.,
When my daughter turned one I started mixing regular milk in her formula and continued putting more milk and less formula until it was all milk. You might also want to do this in a bottle until he is used to regular milk and then wean him from the bottle. Some have had better success using goat's milk instead of cow's. I personally HATE the taste of goat's milk, to strong and gamey.:) As a last resort you might try mixing a little chocolate in his milk, but giving extra sugar can cause a whole other set of problems. On a side note, make sure you are brushing his teeth after milk and before bedtime to keep his teeth healthy.
Sincerely,
L.

Wow, what a shock to your son! All of sudden its all changed?
That would be difficult for a little guy to understand. Try giving him formula from the sippy. If he liked it in the bottle it may help him transition to a cup.
Change is hard for adults and especially hard for a little one year old. Maybe doing the transition from bottle to cup first and then transition from formula to warm milk.
