Hello All,
I had a tubal ligation after having my twins back in November 2006. I made a terrible mistake and now realized that I would like one more child. Does anyone have any advice besides having the tubal reversal surgery? I have heard about many families that have conceived after the ligation. I'm hoping I can as well. Any help would be gladly appreciated :0) Thank you

So What Happened?

Ok.. So I am currently enrolled in a infertility class with Kaiser, it is this coming Monday. Has anyone had a tubal reversal via Kaiser? I'm not even sure they do them. However, I will update after the class. Thank you all for the advice so far :0)

I know exactly what you are going through. I had a tubal reversal back in March of 2004. I went to see Dr. Levin in Kentucky. That was a bad choice! I don't even want to go into details, because I don't want to relive that trauma.

I became pregnant right away, but it was ectopic, so I had my tube removed. Finally, after 4.5 years of trying with my one gimpy, but open tube, I listened to my OB here and went for IVF. I am currently 12 weeks pregnant with twins :)

My OB says here in California they don't do tubal reversals much because it ends up too often in an ectopic. So if I had to do it again, I would skip the tubal reversal fiasco and just have the IVF. The piece of information that I wish I had known before the TR is that just because the tube is reconnected successfully and is open, doesn't mean it will be fully functional. When the egg is fertilized, it happens in the tube and the muscles in the tube need to push it down into the uterus so the embryo can implant somewhere safe and cozy. After a TR there's no guarantee the muscles will work properly, no matter how good of a job they do reconnecting them, so you may end up with ectopics and heartaches.

Now this is just my opinion, based on my experience. However, I have read that some women have gone the opposite route and done IVF first with no success. They had a TR done and were successful. The only thing I would recommend no matter which route you take is stay close to home and go with a doctor you trust COMPLETELY. (I can highly recommend East Bay Fertility Center in Dublin, CA)

I would love to hear how it has been being a mom of twins! I am excited and scared...

Good Luck and Baby Dust :)

The only way to get pregnant after a TL (besides a reversal-I am going to be doing this next year) is IVF (Invitro Fertalization). Otherwise, it is very uncommon. The surgery is quite expensive at around 5-10K but the IVF could cost 20K+. It depends on what you want to spend. FYI, your success rate with only having the TL a few years ago is very high. Mine was over 15 years ago and I have been told by a surgeon that mine can still be reversed. Good luck, T.

Chances of natural conception are very slim. Aside from a reversal, your option for conceiving a bio-baby is in vitro.

I worked in OB/GYN for years and only saw minimal success with reversal procedures, better with IVF. You may also consider adoption if that is an option for your family. I had my tubes tied after my twins (they made 5 children in the family) as well, while I regretted it for a while, I finally had peace about it and am happy about it now. We may adopt in the future, but I don't know. Anyway, I wish you the very best of luck whatever you decide. Just don't make yourself sick with regret, that doesn't help anyone, especially you!

Take care & love on those twins, they are special, aren't they!

Hi A.,

I had a reversal in 2000 and got pregnant in 2002. It took a lot of work and prayer. After On Nathan's 1st birthday I got pregnant and had Isabell. Make sure you really want the reversal and the emotions that goes with it, and I will pray for you and your family. Nathan is now 6 and Isabell is 4.5 yrs old. My husband and I want one more but I am 40 and scared. Good luck and God Bless..

If you are going to pay for reconstructive surgery I have some sdvice straight from the mouth of a great ob/gyn surgeon. You have one good chance so don't let anyone go in and muck it up. The first surgeon to attempt has got to be the BEST!! So seek the very best and pay a little more for the guy or gal that has the most experience under their belt. Do your homework and travel to that person if need be. You will want the first attempt to be the ONLY attempt!Even at that, there are no guarantees. Most insurance will not want to pay as they don't want you pregnant because that just means now they will have to cover another pregnancy.BEST OF LUCK!!BE EDUCATED!! JC
