Learning Video Recommendation

Can anyone recommend some good learning videos for teaching toddlers counting and abc's. We do alot of singing and playing games that include these things, but I would like a few videos as well. I am getting a bit tired of the Baby Einstein series (although it is a great series) and would like something different. When my older one was little we had the Richard Scarry videos and they were great but they are outrageously expensive on dvd. Thanks, T.

Hi T.,

Have you looked into renting videos and/or dvds from your public library? It's free and you get to pick new ones as soon as your child gets bored. Most libraries have excellent selections as well. Good luck!

Blues Clues and Sesame Street videos are rated the most educational for preschoolers. My daughter LOVED Blues Clues as a toddler and learned so much from the videos. You could also use books. You can often find used DVDs on ebay or in consignment shops. They are much less expensive in stores than Baby Einstein too.

The Leap Frog Series is very good. They have one for ABC's, math and reading. My daughter loved the ABC's. She was able to learn all the sounds for the letters.

We joined NetFlix and did all the Elmo and Barney DVDs. Also Dora is good for learning, too. Blockbuster has a program, too. We liked doing it that way because we weren't watching the same exact show over and over, and we could get a good variety. The have pretty cheap packages/monthly fees. We did the 3-at-a-time package so that we could get movies for us, too.

Nursery Rhymes plays an important role in children learning. The rhyming words and soothing background music amuses the children to learn and sing along. It enables the child to learn and speak new words when growing up. In today’s world where the technology surrounds us and almost every important aspect of our life is linked with technology, there are also Nursery Rhymes that are available in smartphone applications.
Here is a beautiful animated nursery rhyme application for children to enjoy and learn.

There is a Leap Frog Series, The Letter Factory, Math Circus and Word Factory. My 2 boys love them. My 4 year old learned all his letters and sounds at 2 1/2. He is now starting to read. And the Math Circus is a big hit as well. My 2 year has autism and has started recognizing his numbers because of this video. And they are affordable to boot!

Hi T.!

There is one that I love, for teaching not only the abc, but also, each of the letter's sound. It's a fantastic video and is from Leap Frog, it's called "The Letter Factory". They also have the video for the numbers. You can find it at Toys r us for about $10.00. My son got it for his 3 b-day and he learned a lot.
