Clomid Questions...

Hi. I am interested to hear what others have to say because my sister just told me she is starting Clomid next month. Good luck.

I took six rounds of Clomid and never did get pregnant. I think my daughter, whom we adopted, was telling me something and leading us to be together instead of a biological child!

Ugh, my time on Clomid was awful--especially the mood swings. They were crushing, to say the least. You have PCOD... I didn't know that Clomid was an option for that. I'd do a bit more research, myself, but I support you in whatever you choose to do--good luck!!

I have a girlfriend who also had a child the first time--sort of an oops--they weren't trying, but also not not trying. Then she did have to go on clomid, and yep--twins. Not what they'd planned, but they are happy. She was also very high risk before they knew there were twins, but all ended well.

J.: I have tried it and had no success. I did four rounds of Clomid (along with some other combinations). I didn't notice too many side effects at the time -- but I have noticed since then that my PMS/moodiness is worse that it was before I did the treatment. I took Clomid for a few months. No luck. Fortunately, we got over the bio-baby thing and have adopted a wonderful little girl (who we got at birth). Bonus point: she looks just like me! I don't think I could have done as well with our own gene pool. Bio babies are NOT the only way to make a family, so if the clomid doesn't have any affect, check out adoption. The best move I have ever made.

I took Clomid to conceive three years ago, and conceived after only a couple (or one, I don't remember) months on it. I had no side effects, and gave birth to one girl, who is very healthy and is 3. I was going to get on it for child number 2 also, but "spontaneously ovulated" just before beginning it, and conceived without it. My sister also took it, and gave birth to healthy children as a result, without any side effects. I do know that hypothyroid can inhibit fertility, so it might be good to have your thyroid levels tested. Good luck!

I used Clomid by itself for 3 months with no luck. Then, I did Clomid, Follistem and IUI for one month and got pregnant with triplets. I feel the "Triplets" asspect was from the Follistem. We did notice that my eggs were a little bigger/stronger when on Clomid...but, for me personally, Clomid wasn't enough. I know many people that got pregnant while just on Clomid though. Hi J.. I have been thru the IF treatment with clomid. It’s hard but so worth it.
Clomid is a really good drug but not everyone responds to it. Most do though. The drawback is the side effects. They can include, headaches, nausea, blurred vision, cramping, irritability/mood swings, hot flashes, there is an increased risk of multiples (but not by much) and the risk of hyperstimulation (ovarian enlargement-but not by much).

I was on clomid on and off for 3 ½ yrs. The only side effect I had was blurred vision right before bed time that was my cue that I was ready to hit the sack. But, after 3 ½ yr, we got pg and I delivered a beautiful baby boy. He will be 4 in Sept.

I was put on clomid when we had beed trying for over 2 years to have our second. It worked well, I got pregnant the first month of taking it so it worked for me. My son is now 6 and is awesome, just like his big sister. Hope this helped. Good luck and God bless!

Hi J., I have PCOD as well and was told the same thing. I had to take Clomid as well to conceive I was successful three times. It was much harder with our 3rd son. I ended up the last month I conceived having to take 250 mg a day (5 pills), a total of 8 months trying. I had no side effects at all. Good luck!

I personally haven't used clomid, but I do have two friends who have. The first friend used it with all three of her pregnancies and it worked like a charm. They were pregnant almost instantly in each case. (I know they tried for several months with their first child and got pregnant the first try after starting clomid. With the other two they started out on clomid and were pregnant within a couple of tries). She has never had twins. My other friend used clomid for her second child after a year of trying. She used it for a few months before conceiving. Neither mentioned any side effects to me, but you could ask your doctor about that.

I took Clomid for about 6 mo. with no luck and was having such mood swings and so disappointed each month that we decided to stop. About 3 years later, when we had given up on the idea of another child, I got pregnant. One thing to think about, we just recently tried to get new health insurance and they (BCBS) denied us because I had fertility treatment within the last 5 years. THey said that if I had my tubes tied then they would write us. Now we are flagged in the "system" because we were denied and other companies quotes are increasing because of it. Just something to keep in mind.

I did three cycles of clomid and on the 3rd one got pregnant with my daughter. I did not have any side effects of it. We used intrauterine insemination with the clomid, so I don't know how you are going to do it. Just make sure you do it just like the dr says. which I am sure you will.

Hi. I took clomid for about 6 months. I had no side effects. I did get pregnant with clomid and artifical insemanation(It is early, I don't know if I spelled that correctly!) I did produce two babies, but only one developed. It is called a dissolving twin. My little girl was born healthy...but be careful...it took me a long time to get pregnant with my daughter..got off all meds and wow three months later pregnant again,,my kiddos are 13 months apart! good luck! Hi! I took Clomid a couple of years ago due to my irregular cycles and got pregnant first time. I did end up miscarrying the first pregnancy but a couple months later I took Clomid again and conceived my son who will be two next month. I would take it again in a hearbeat! As a result of the clomid I did get a large cyst each time but they just monitored me closely (lots of ultrasounds which was great!) but it never caused any problems. I have read somewhere that your chances for miscarriage may go up as it could cause you to release an immature egg but my dr who was awesome felt totally comfortable and confident in putting me on it. Hi J., We tried conceiving for 4 years with no luck. So we finally tried the clomid. I did it for 6 months I believe (whatever the length they allowed) the last month I was allowed to do it I was pregnant. Unfortunately, I ended up miscarriaging at 12 weeks. But we were able to conceive again 6 months later.

I don't know for a fact that it was the clomid that made us conceive. But I never had any side effects from it at all. So I would definately recommend it. The worst part about it is just having to go to the dr's each month. But it's all definately worth it.

Sorry to hear of your struggles....My husband and I too also struggled for approx 18mos.....to conceive...I took Clomid for 4 months I believe, my problem was that I was not ovulating on my own. They upped the dosage the last couple rounds. They did blood work and it seemed that Clomid was not doing the trick on me personally, and they figured it probably wouldnt if it hadnt that far. So, the next drug to try was called Letrisole (sp?)...I took it for 2 mos and I got pregnant. It is a less heard of drug than Clomid. They told me it was a newer found fertility drug that originally is used in breast cancer patients. They then found that breast cancer patients were getting pregnant! Anyhow, So, I thought I would share this with you. Im not sure if there is another name than Letrisole or not but its something to ask your dr about. I took Clomid back in Oct 2007 and I am now 2 days away from my due date with our first son. I have known many of my friends that have taken Clomid, the worst side effect that I heard of were hot flashes, which I did not experience. I did have a friend that recently had twin boys...and she took Clomid. In total I have known 4 people who have taken Clomid and have had success...I have not personally known anyone that took it and did not concieve. Good luck to you!

I just want to tell you that a friend and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for three years. Her Dr. says they both are able, just keep track of the days. I bought her three bottles of the Maca Maca. She got pregnant on the first bottle. She is so grateful.........

My sister had to take clomid to try to conceive also, however she did not while she was taking. My sisters and I both have PCOS. I was lucky to have the help of my sisters trials to make it easier for me to find out what I needed to help conceive. Have my talked to your OBGYN about taking Glucophage? With PCOS your ovaries are insulin resistant and you taking this medication helps with the resistance. You may already be taking it, however that is what all 3 of us used to help us have our wonderful children, no clomid needed. I know how frustrating it is to be going through this, however you had your first without clomid, I would try the glucophage first before jumping in with the clomid.

I had no negative side effects from Clomid, although my circumstances were different. I had very irregular periods, so I took clomid to make sure I ovulated on a predictable cycle.

My first time using Clomid my doctor eventually bumped me up to 100 mg, which I believe was a high dose, and didn't notice any side effects. My next two pregnancies I needed lower and lower doses. By my fourth and fifth pregnancies I didn't need Clomid at all because my cycles had regulated.

(Ironically, it was one of my non-Clomid pregnancies that produced twins.)

I'd encourage you to give it a try. And IF you end up with twins don't panic -- it's totally doable, especially when you're an experienced mom. Good luck!

We conceived my daughter using clomid 3 years ago and am starting up again for round 2 as soon as I start my period. We got very lucky with my daughter and concieved the first month. I'm trying to not get my hopes up for the same luck this time around as most people I have known on clomid have not had the same results. I do know numerous people that have had success AND didn't have twins.

My only advice from the one month we were on it is to not get too stressed out. It is hard b/c you are constantly counting days and taking tests, etc. and hang in there!

I conceived after using Clomid for 3 months. I was not ovulating on my own, so for the first time in years, Clomid forced me to have regular periods. The only side effect that I had was hot flashes, especially at night. My son is now almost 5 years old. The greatest part is that instead of now being infertile, I have regular cycles and have a 2 year old and another baby on the way...no help needed for these last two. I pray you will be also blessed as I have been!

I have PCOS. I had luck with clomid one good egg each time but did not get pregnant. We also had male factor. I conceived my daughter the first month and then we just couldn't get pregnant. Injectables worked really good for us. We did injectables and IVF and got pregnant on our first cycle. So there is hope. Clomid works for a lot of people, they probably don't have male factor too like us. I didn't have any bad side effects on clomid.

my husband and I had the same thing we have a 2 and half year old we had without much difficulty but number 2 was long in coming. We did Clomid and had great luck with it the first time. I really had no side effects whatsoever and am pleased to say we have a second little boy who is 10 weeks old.

I only took two rounds of clomid and I got pregnant! I didn't have any side effects. I have heard from one friend that it made her act "crazy". But I have another friend who had PCOS and took clomid. It took her many tries, with some breaks, but she finally got pregnant. By the way, my friend and I did NOT have twins. The only person I know that's had twins happened naturally!

I've conceived om clomid 2x, but only after 2-3 yrs of trying with follicle studies and iuf off and on. I conceived on my own on metformin. If you have pcod/pcos, you should talk to your Dr. about going on metformin. I have 2 sisters who have it, as well as myself. We are all on it. I went to the top fertility specialist dealing with pcos infertility in St. Louis who told me it is nearly impossible to conceive without the metformin (glucophage). It is worth asking about. This time when I was pregnant, every nurse and Dr. said "oh your on metformin, that's why you got pregnant, we see a lot of that now". I had no idea and had used the clomid trying for #3 and quit for 4 yrs. when I conceived on my own. I was also told I would never conceive and I have 3 children, so keep the faith.

I used Clomid with no luck and had to move on to bigger drugs. What Clomid can really do for you is make your uterine lining very hospitiable for a fertilized egg. Having extra follicles, even the ones that don't ripen all the way, can help in the second half of your cycle by boosting your progesterone levels. I definately know people that have had success with Clomid.

I have been on Clomid, also. I have PCOS. I had no side effects. I had no luck on 50 mg. So, my doctor bumped my dose up to 100 mg and I became pregnant with our daughter. A few years later we conceived again with our son. He had a vanishing twin. Then we moved and I had to change doctors. I am having to start all over with my new doctor. He did prescribe Clomid for us last year. I became pregnant on Clomid, but it was an ectopic pregnancy. It was very scary, but everything turned out well for the situation. I now have 1 tube and a 50% chance to conceive again. My doctor wants us to try for a year on our own. Then we will try Clomid one more time if we don't conceive on our own in the mean time. I also have PCOS and was on Clomid for about a year. First off, I wondered if your doc had you taking Metformin for PCOS, whether you are trying to concieve or not. IT definately helps some women regulate and increased their chances of getting pregnant. The way Clomid was explained to me was that the chance of twins was the it is 5% and no more likely than it would be for the rest of the population. My specialist did do an ultrasound and lab work to see how my body responded to it (by seeing your levels and checking that the clomid didn't have your producing too many follicles). One warning, Clomid made me quite a bear...well, according to my DH :). My doc explained that since it's a synthetic form of hormone, it can cause mood swings. I'd made sure you ask your doctor what tests or lab work will be involved with taking clomid and make sure you are comfortable with it. If you ever have the need to go to a specialist, Dr. Dan Gehlbach at Olathe Med is AMAZING :). We did Follistim injections and Interuterine Insemination (IUI) if you ever have questions about that.
