Cleaning the Oven

Good old-fashioned elbow grease! :-)

What I usually do is clean it as well as I can with water or dish-soap and water, and then all that's left is the stuck-on stuff. Then I sprinkle baking soda all over it, and pour white vinegar on top of it -- it will bubble and fizz! Then get a soft scrubby and scrub up what I can. The baking soda is abrasive enough without being too abrasive; and then I repeat it until it's clean (or as clean as I can get it). It's more work than using chemicals in a can, but it doesn't fume and I'm not worried about any possible cancer-causing substances in the commercial oven-cleaner that they haven't discovered yet.

It takes a bit of elbow grease but they are much safer, particularly the baking soda/viegar / dishsoap one.

I just used Easy Off Fume Free Max Lemon Scented for my oven. Worked very well and didn't have much smell at all. My kids and I were in the next room the whole morning and it didn't bother us.

Easy Off makes a Fume Free oven cleaner that should work, I had used it when I lived in an apartment.

get a bottle of shout (like you put on your stains in the laundry) spray it on and let it sit for a good hour or more. then wipe off. make sure you wipe all of it off with a damp cloth or you will smell it when you turn the oven on again, but it really cleans it well without the elbow greese.

vinegar and baking soda works as well as anything.
