Wow! Funny story....Last night I was cooking in my gas oven and a lot of bacon grease fell to the bottom of the oven. My husband decided to trun on the auto-clean. After about 40 minutes I had a grease fire in my oven....the flames were high but the oven was locked and we couldn't do anything. Finally the fire put it's self out but now I am left with the mess in the oven. I'm not sure how to clean it. I have always used the auto-clean option.

Please help me with this....I need my oven....I use it almost everyday!!!!

THANKS:)

So What Happened?

This is what we (I made husband do most of the work)....First we used the Easy Off and let it sit over night then in the am we used a wet rag to wipe it out...used easy off again and let it sit for a few hours...used the wet rag again...then used the auto-clean again...NO PROBLEMS!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED TO MY REQUEST!

Hi J.,

I had the very same problem last year (except it was butter in the bottom of my oven). There is an oven cleaner that is for "Auto Cleaner Ovens". You can spray that in there, and clean up some of the mess.

I did that, and it helped! I actually missed some of the butter, b/c the second time I ran the oven, a smaller fire started, and then put it self out. . .. but the third time was uneventful!

Good Luck!

oh no. something similar happened to me. I used it a number of times before I really cleaned it up, though, and that was a mistake. It really cooked on there. What I did was coat the bottom with baking soda and the poured vinegar on it. It foamed up and I let it set for a while before cleaning up with a scrub brush. It came out very well but my oven still has some black marks.

Ok, Yes you do have a mess. It your oven surface is smooth, then it will be easier to clean up. If it is rough, it will take longer to clean. I am assuming the inside of you oven looks like ash, you may have a pile of grey/white stuff on the bottom of the oven. You also may have soot on the walls. If you have a pile at the bottom scoop out the excess. Then, I would get a sponge and hot soapy water and start wiping. Be careful around the element/pilot light. You can also use the blue shop towels to wipe down the sides and throw them away. They come in a roll and you get them in the automotive section. Also, pull a trash can over to you and the oven. It is just easier to wipe and dump. I hope this helps. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask. I owned a cleaning service for 12 years. Happy Cleaning!!

Try the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. They work great for cleaning and they are soft so they won't scratch the surface. You just wet them then clean. Also good for cleaning walls. It will brighten up the paint from where people (children) put their hands.

The thing mot people forget about a self-cleaning oven (which is really just an oven that has the ability to heat up to the point of burning anything built-up off)is it really isn't self cleaning . . . let me explain. . .

The owners manual (who reads those things anyway?) says that you are to wipe out all spills and such before you set the oven on clean. What that means for you now, is you are going to have to use some elbow grease - not bacon grease :-) and wipe the oven clean with a wet cloth or sponge, then you can try the self clean feature again to get the really burned on stuff.

Good luck and remember next time to wipe up any loose or greas spills before you start the clean feature

You should be able to use Easy Off oven cleaner. It's easy to use and the directions are on the can.
