What Dads REALLY Want for Father's Day
It’s that time of year… cram a year of fatherly love into one weekend of goodwill, and one day of dad adoration, with some gifts that may or may not really show what you think about the man who helped bring you into the world. Maybe it’s our fault. We’re hard to shop for. Maybe we need to start dropping little hints or is this REALLY the stuff we really asked for…
Men’s Wearhouse suggested I thank dad in style… and check out the “ultimate gift” section… including LUGGAGE. Gee thanks dad. I hope you’re with me forever but here’s luggage so you can go far, far away.
This company admits they have no idea who they’re emailing… just pass it on…
Kmart told me it’s almost Father’s Day and dad deserves the VERY best… I can’t quite make out what the “best” is which is pictured there… Oh yes… they’re screwdrivers… the “best” screwdrivers?!
Godiva suggested chocolate-dipped pretzels for dad and says “Mr Fix It” strikes again. I don’t know who that guy is but I do like chocolate.. with all the fixin’s!
M&M’s suggested I should be dad’s number one fan… and I DO love M&M’s!
After all the pretzels and M&M’s I might need this… a Fathers Day offer to help cure diabetes. This is perhaps the most unusual Father’s Day email I received.
Tiffany suggested you get me a little blue box. I agree. And no it’s not a BOGO for me AND for you. It’s just for me.
THIS company advertised gifts for every “type” of dad with a picture of some sort of dad-bib-thing. What type of dad is THAT??
Target had a list of gifts, and broke them down into the “first rate dad” canvas artwork, all the way down to the “we love you dad” mug.
So not all of these are horrible. Some of them are for sure. The worst one I heard was “car floor mats.” They called it the “perfect gift” for dad. There’s NOTHING we like more than being thought of as a floor mat. I guess it’s slightly better than door mat.
Let me break it down. Dads like to know we’re being thought about. We are pretty simple guys. Me personally: I’d like a nice steak dinner, a microbrew beer, and a little love and attention from the family. We want to know you care. It’s something that doesn’t come in any advertisement. And it’s something that’s priceless in the end.
