Dr. Seuss Baby Shower
SIMPLY ‘THE BEST’ – INTRODUCING BEST MOM WISDOM
Over the past six years, millions in the Mamapedia community have generously shared their wisdom; providing valuable information that can help you make informed decisions about every aspect of your life. With hundreds of questions being asked and answered daily, many posts of particular interest do not have ample opportunity to shine. For that reason, we have created a new twice-weekly column – BEST MOM WISDOM –to bring forward some of the best from the Mamapedia archives.
For our first BEST MOM WISDOM, we honor the amazing Dr. Seuss (born this day in 1904) by sharing clever party ideas that were inspired by characters from the imagination of this beloved author.

I’m planning a baby shower (which I’ve never done before!) for this summer, and I know the mother would love a Dr. Seuss themed shower, since that’s how she’s decorating her nursery…any ideas for decorations or games – anything at all would be helpful!
Thanks, in advance, Mamas!

I’m doing my shower of Dr. Seuss as well. This is what I have found so far…partycity.com has a lot of invitations and tableware also go to Kara’s Party Ideas … she had a Dr. Seuss themed baby shower and made cupcakes with cotton candy as the icing making it look the part for Dr. Seuss

A friend threw me a “book shower” for me because she knew I loved to read and I was hoping to pass that along to my soon to be first born. Each guest at the shower was given a fairy tale name. You could give each guest a character name from a different book and give them a name tag when they arrive (with a character name). I would use the actual Seuss books to decorate. You can probably get them from the library if you don’t have a child with a collection. Take down the books and see how many titles each guest can recollect and write them down – the one with the most wins! You can also do a rhyming game like “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket,” but with baby items – there’s a cottle in my bottle, a skriper in my diaper. It doesn’t have to may any sense and sounds like fun to me! Hope you get some great ideas. You might try to make green eggs and ham, but I have no idea how to do that!!

How fun is this? Here are some ideas I found or made up:
Games:
- Have the guests name as many Dr. Seuss books as they can.
- Guests write a short Seuss-rhyme about the mom or the baby. The Mom-to-be could choose the one she likes, best or just save them to use in her scrapbook.
- Play bingo with Dr. Seuss book clip art that you find online
Decorations:
- Use bright colors (blue, red, green, etc.)Decorate using the hat shape or other characters from the books that you can print.
- Make a “hat” cake using a larger round cake pan for the bottom (in white) and then smaller cakes, stacked, in alternating white and red “stripes.” You could place a cute rattle on the top to make it more “baby”-ish, or just leave it as the hat. :)
- Decorate your table with foods that are mentioned in the books…or at least LOOK like them. (I don’t think anyone REALLY want to eat “green eggs and ham” at the shower; although, maybe they will. lol)
- Place red (Swedish Fish) on or in a food item (from “One Fish Two Fish”.)
- Have your family help you make “feet” (from “The Foot Book”) and tape them around the walls at the shower.
