I was planning on adding some excercise to my routine. I always liked Zumba but looked up some classes but the timings won't work for me. So I am thinking of buying the zumba DVD and working out at home. It's like $50 for the DVD , so I thought I will ask you mamas if anyone has tried this and has helped losing weight. I am looking at loosing tummy fat mainly, so I know I guess I will have to do some ab excercises along with zumba? if anybody tried this , please let me know how it worked out for you. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I was going to get it for my Xbox but then I blew out my knee. I guess I need to either buy it or come up with a new excuse cause my knee is fine now. :-/

I can't imagine a dvd working though. The only reason the Xbox holds hope for M. is the kinect thing watches you and tells you if you are doing it wrong.

I have the Zumba on the PS3 and it has a belt that monitors the moves (which I thought I was doing right). However, I guess I wasn't making the moves as "big" as they were and my score was low! Haha! It's fun...but I found for M. it was more cardio than anything (with a little soreness). I am 5'4 and 108 lbs...but I have found that Yoga and Ab excercises tones M. more than anything. Zumba is fun...but I didn't see many results from solely doing it. If you have a PS3 the EA Sports Active was AWESOME...and you see results pretty fast and feel the burn! ;)

P.S. The ONLY reason I have a PS3 is bc of the hubby and kids...so I don't expect you to buy one solely for you...but if your kids have one it's great!

I also have it on my ps3 and I did it 3 times a week for about 3 months and I lost about 5 pounds, but then I got sick with the flu and haven't done it in about 6 months and gained everything back. I really didn't see any change in my stomach. Mostly it is just cardio, not so much muscle tone (for M. at least) workout. I thought after doing it for 3 months, I would have lost more, but oh well. I think there are probibly better workouts out there

Well, I just received it last week so I can't tell you much about the results yet. I picked up the big $90 set that is all over the infomercials, but fortunately I had a lot of credits at Amazon and really only paid around $15.

I took a few trial classes over the summer, so I had a sense of what Zumba was already like. That said, I'm finding the DVDs a little different from in-class instruction. Not any less enjoyable, just different.

I'm not a dancer at all - never took any dance classes and am not that coordinated - so I'm really having to go through the step-by-step DVD quite a few times, actually memorizing the steps. The first couple times I did the Activate session I was soooo lost. Now I can keep up pretty good, though I sometimes have to forget about the arms so I can just keep up with the footwork.

I've done the easier DVDs for a week now, between 40 minutes - 1 hour each night, plus sticking to my diet at the same time, and I have to say I'm definitely feeling a little more toned. Yesterday I put on a shirt that had gotten a bit tight and it fit better. So, thumbs up so far!

I always get my dvds from ebay or amazon, much cheaper, especially if you buy used. If you have netflix, I believe they have zumba dvds you an rent first to see if you like them.

And yes, Zumba is great for cardio, but you need to do ab exercises separately, it doesn't target that section or contribute to body toning, but will help you lose body fat.

I take local Zumba classes and love it! I also bought the Wii Zumba, tried it a couple times and gave it away. I didn't care for it at all. I have a Pilates Crunch DVD from Walmart that is my favorite to use!

I do zumba at a club and really sweat, but I don't think it, by itself, will be the only thing you need. I checked out some videos from the library and found they were not as motivating as being in a class, and were, frankly, unexciting.

[Caveat - if you have never exercised before, than it will probably help a fair amount, but I went to zumba already fit (if still a bit over weight) so zumba for M. is a fun diversion from the other cardio classes, but not the way that will help M. lose weight.]

You probably will have to do ab exercises and to reduce ab fat, you should probably decrease your consumption of white carbs and maybe carbs in general. Essentially, it won't be one thing that will do it, but a combination of things.

FYI I bought p90X and that is tons harder. I don't even do the whole thing, just pick and chose when I need to do something at home.

I like zumba, but if you're wanting to tone your midsection more and have fun dancing, I recommend Hip Hop Abs or Rockin Body. You can get get them from my website. I have friends who have had great success with Hip Hop Abs! http://www.getfitgainlife.com They are both $59.85. And if you order from my website, you get a bonus workout for free ($20 value)! :0)
