So I was kvetching with another mom today about not being able to edit out stuff from movies (although everything is digital!) and ... Come to find... I'm the only mom I know who doesn't have & use ClearPlay.

Headsmack.

Um. Hullo! SHARE this stuff with me.

So how bout'chall?

Am I really the last parent alive who did t know that for about $8 a month (plus buying the special DVD player) I can totally go edit movies (sex, violence, language).

Nope. Never heard of it.
Interesting.
But I've gotta believe that if a movie has some scenes that need to be edited out, perhaps the rest of the movie is above my kids head as well?
I think there are many things kids can be exposed to when its age appropriate.
My kid loves war stuff & movies, most are rated above his age. Many old movies are unrated. But if it gets to a situation where it's an F bomb every 2 minutes--it goes off.

We edit movies for free with "No, you can't see that until you are older."

I am old school!!!
I always watched it first, decided if they could see it, and proceeded from there.
When it was on video it was easy enough to fast forward through the "sketchy" stuff, but that's not so easy with DVD and digital recordings!
Sometimes the old technology really IS easier, lol!!!

Wow, I had no idea that was even possible. It's pretty cool. Thanks for letting us know.

Personally, though, it's not a tool I feel the need for. I'm with the other "old school" moms - I pre-screen, and I say, "Not until you're older."

You're not the only one. I haven't heard of this before.
However, I am one of the old-school moms who either will watch it myself first (rarely), go to iMBD (or whatever it is, to see exactly what is in it) and use the ratings charts. If it is "R", they aren't watching it, period.

But, my kids are older, too. And I agree with the logic that if the movie has sex in it, then there is probably content I don't want them exposed to even without the sex part. Ya know?

We took our 2 to see Skyfall at the theater a couple weekends ago. The online stuff listed all this sex stuff, that really was blown out of proportion. It was weird.
"man naked from waist up, wet" was Bond sitting on the side of a pool after a swim. LOL
