I just returned to work after staying at home for many years. We are searching for a good home for our 4 year old female yorkie who has been the best and most wonderful pet for my girls. I just can't leave her alone all day anymore......my husband travels and my girls have after school commitments that brings us home late most school days. That means that our beloved yorkie is alone from 7:15am until almost 7 pm on most days. Then our weekends are full of swim meets or tennis tournaments that at sometimes take us out of town. We love her so much that it pains us that we can't give her the attention she needs.
So my question is, how do I go about looking for a stay at home mom and wonderful family that will give her the attention she needs daily, the walks she loves so much during the day, and give her the love she deserves.....we don't know where to turn to assure that she gets a good home.
I have a friend that is very interested. She's been looking for a yorkie for a friend for her 2 year old girl yorkie. Is she free or are you selling her, and if so, how much? Contact me for more info. Thanks!

Have you thought about hiring a pet sitter as an alternative to getting rid of your dog? You could hire a professional or even have one of the kids in your neighborhood come play with and walk your dog after school. Some day I'll go back to work, too, and this is something I would do if necessary.

I don't mean to be rude but when you take the responsibility of a pet (getting one) ...you are taking a responsibility of up to 14 yrs or so.
My dogs are priority and we would never consider giving them/or selling them due to our family committments or finances. They are a part of the family and a committment we made years ago. We figure our daily routine into the routine of our pets because it is the right thing to do.
If you are determined to get rid of your precious dog (yes they can be a handful), I would first suggest a recue group to do my best to keep my dog from being euthanized.
Taking on pets is a big deal, big responsiblity and long term commitment. It takes money, effort and a lot of patience.

Can you tell us a little more about her? Is she an "only child", house broken, are you selling her or simply looking to find a good home, etc?
A little about us:
I'm a stay-at-home mom; home-school my only child (a 15 y.o.). We have 2 indoor cats (they are both Devon Rex, so not the typical aloof-type cats). We are home every day, but my d.s does take piano lessons outside the home 2 days per week. These take us away for a few hours, as we have to travel to reach his teachers.
Also, I have several retired neighbors. I know one was recently looking to get an indoor dog. I can see if they're interested.

I am so sorry you feel the need to make this decision. It seems you truly love this little dog. Have you exhausted all avenues so that you could possibly keep her. Install a doggie door & all that. She can still be walked after 7pm. I just don't want you to take that path & a few months pr years later agonize over that decision. I had to get rid of our cat over 7 years ago....& still to this day get sick in the stomach about it. Our daughter was/is very allergic & we even tried shots & shaving the poor cat but nothing worked but I'm still sick in the stomach about giving away my sweet little TK.
Best bet is to contact a yorkie rescue. Your vet should know...or jump on the net & google it.
Sometimes you have to do what you think is best and I admire your decision to find a good loving home for your pet. I had to do the same thing with a bird I had before adopting my daughter. I cried my eyes out when I gave her up for adoption. So I experienced some of what my daughter's biological mother must have felt. Anyway, I have some friends who were recently talking about getting a yorkie for their 2 daughters. I'll ask them if they are interested.
