Hi moms,
I'm thinking about signing my 3 year old for soccer through the Flower Mound YMCA small fry soccer, ages 2-4. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with soccer & 3 year olds! Any advice will be appreciated! I don't want to overwhelm him but he loves playing in our backyard. I'm just not sure what to expect. Thanks so much!

my 3 year old daughter played at the Y last fall and loved it, she even scored a goal!! basically it's alot of running around, her coach was wonderful and she learned alot about working as a team. now of course there were times when different kids wanted nothing to do with the game and would rather chase butterflies or go play on the playground but that's fine too. fyi - some of the coaches and parents take it a tad too seriously, they are 3-4 for crying out loud!

Kristin,

As a rule, the YMCA is a non-competitive league. This means that the children play and learn the game without having pressure put on them to win. We do the YMCA sports in FW (Clark Nowlin) and we've been very pleased. The older they get, the more competitive it gets, but if people get out of hand, they get kicked out of the league so you don't have the bashing that goes on with other leagues.

My son--now 10--started soccer at age 3 and he LOVED it. I think it is good for their motor skills and learning to play as a team. It was a great opportunity for them to play with other kids their age and of course good exercise. I am glad we did it. Good Luck!

My daughter played soccer last spring and she was three too, she just turned four, and she loved it! If he's good at following directions he'll do great. Casey didnt like all the running back and forth so now she just likes to play baseball, but I say go for it! and Good luck!
