It seems to be (rumor has it) that lessons and activities are cheaper when you join the Y, and therefore the kids can do more than when you contract individual activities.
Does anyone have good or bad Y stories? I think the one near 71st street is the closest one......
Thanks in advance.........

What can I do next?

I don't know what I would do without the Jordan YMCA! My kids go there after school and get to swim twice a week. They have their homework done when I pick them up which is HUGE for a single working mom. We have done the soccer, swim lessons, tumbling (wouldn't recommend), and the basketball. Plus because I am poor I get an even better discount on activities and after shool care. My kids have formed great friendships with the counselors and the other kids. It really feels like a community center.

It is a great deal, depending on how often you use it. For a while, I just took individual classes (pilates) at the Baxter YMCA (southside). I recently got a membership and wish I had done it earlier. There is a pretty cool indoor playground, which is great for helping my son burn off energy when it is yucky outside. The free child watch area is great for me - right now I am on my own, and having that time for myself (even on a treadmill!!) has been fantastic. I know he is in good hands while I am having some time to myself and doing something healthy at the same time. I haven't been to the one on 71st Street yet.

I love the YMCA, but the one near 71st street is fairly new. I have signed up my children for a couple of different classes and all of them were canceled due to lack of enrollment. From now on I go to the Jordan YMCA for classes. It is a little futher, but this one has the client bais built up. Now, the 71st YMCA is not all bad. My kids love going to the babysitters when I am trying to exersice.
