P.K.
I just enjoy the editorial response. Never read the book. Actually just read the editorial last night. It is my very, very favorite.
There is the classic edition and the more modern reprint of it.
Have any of you read this or to your kids????
I am so ignorant of this, my parents never had this book nor read it to me, nor have I read it.
We seemed to have so many books growing up, but not this one.
Anyway, if you read the classic version, how is that?
If you read or have the modern reprint of it, how is that?
If you or your kids read it, which one do you/they prefer?
I want to get the book. Don't know which one.
For my daughter. She is 10 and still believes in Santa, which I find so sweet because she has such a child's heart, still.
But she says some other classmates don't believe anymore.
Anyway, so am pondering getting the book for her.
For this year, or next.
Just wanted to know your opinions or feelings on the book, either version.
TIA!
And Mele Kalikimaka! (which is Hawaiian for Merry Christmas!)

While you may find it in book form now, it was not originally a book -- it was a letter from an eight-year-old girl to the editor of a newspaper and its very thoughtful response. I am unaware of any book form, although I'm sure someone has put illustrations to it at some point. The Polar Express is a wonderful book and later movie that also address the loss of belief in Santa.
It's been years, but I loved it. Here's some info ...

Started as a real life question to a New York newspaper. Now, it's in book and movie form. A great thing and story to encourage believing. I love it and will find it again for our LO.
Actually, I never knew there was a book. Although I've read the newspaper article many times.
I think it was the early 80's when they made a tv movie staring Richard Thomas and Ed Asner. The movie deals with several adult themes, unemployment, discrimination, death, alcholism, It's one of my favorite movies. My SIL was able to track down the DVD for me 2 years ago as a Christmas present.
Yes, I highly recommend you read the article to her.
