My youngest daughter and I had thrush (yeast infection on nipples and mouth) while we were breastfeeding. Our doctor gave us a liquid to put on with a dropper (I can't remember what it was called). She later got a vaginal yeast infection and I used the same stuff there and it went away pretty fast. I don't know if you're actually supposed to use it that way, but you could ask your doctor about it. Maybe it was the liquid diflucan you mentioned, I'm not sure. From what I remember, it's designed to work fast, since a bad case of thrush can cause a baby to refuse the breast.
Also, there are some dietary things that can help prevent or fight yeast infections according to eastern medicine mainly yougurt with active "good" bacteria and also garlic.
I've even heard of topically applying yougurt to the affected area, but I never tried it. You'd want to talk to your doctor about those things, they may be nothing more than "old wives tales". Good luck.
