Yeast Infections - Shakopee,MN

My 4 year old daughter is constantly getting yeast infections. The doctor told us to use Monostat and it really burned. We have since needed to clean out her vaginal area nightly as there is always a build up. She was also placed on liquid diflucan and it worked for like 4 days and it was back again. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this. I used to get them all the time when I was pregnant with her and I feel really bad for sharing this with her as it is the worst thing in the world.

What can I do next?

My youngest daughter and I had thrush (yeast infection on nipples and mouth) while we were breastfeeding. Our doctor gave us a liquid to put on with a dropper (I can't remember what it was called). She later got a vaginal yeast infection and I used the same stuff there and it went away pretty fast. I don't know if you're actually supposed to use it that way, but you could ask your doctor about it. Maybe it was the liquid diflucan you mentioned, I'm not sure. From what I remember, it's designed to work fast, since a bad case of thrush can cause a baby to refuse the breast.

Also, there are some dietary things that can help prevent or fight yeast infections according to eastern medicine mainly yougurt with active "good" bacteria and also garlic.
I've even heard of topically applying yougurt to the affected area, but I never tried it. You'd want to talk to your doctor about those things, they may be nothing more than "old wives tales". Good luck.

I get them all the time too...I was told that it could be as simple as the laundry detergent you use. Also I was told no more bathes or perfumed soap/body wash. I've switched to the ALL detergent in the white bottle-allergen free and no more bathes except when I really neek to soak and relax... But good luck looking for a non-perfumed bodywash.

Hi M.,
Yeast infections are caused by an imbalance of good bacteria in the GI tract. The easiest way to get rid of that is to build up the good bacteria in the system. I use a product called Optiflora by Shaklee. It's the only product on the market guaranteed to deliver the bacteria live to the intestinal tract. I also market the product because I was so impressed with the results. You can get more info on it here: www.caelijah.com The health food stores have several products as well. You can find them in the refrigerated sections. I think even Rainbow and Cub may carry them. Feel free to private message me if you'd like to chat more about this.

My 5 yo dd gets them on occasion. Things that seem to make them more frequent are when she eats a lot of carbs, foods with more sugar (even natural sugars, like juice, or a lot of fruit), or long baths and using a lot of soaps/bubbles in the tub. If she is getting them again, I try to cut back on the carbs by giving her more protein and watch the sugars. I encourage her to shower instead of bathe, or dont allow any soap or bubbles in the tub for awhile.
